Looks pretty good, it should be enough for a year or two. The only thing I would think is that the graphics card is expensive,
compusa had them for $150 with $50 off and another $30 rebate. I expect the prices will drop in a month or two. Given
a choice, I would get the system and keep your current video card until I could get a least a radeon 9500. anyway enjoy.

Looks like pretty solid chit, all the way around. Nice, fat PS to keep it stable. The vid card and RAM are a tad high, but good prices elsewhere, it's a good overall price, and a nice, powerful system. NEC makes nice monitors, which model? That's a good price. I don't know what you're coming from system-wise, but I think you'll be very happy.

Monitor is a NEC MultiSync 97F-BK

Resolutions Supported:

640 x 480 @ 60 to 160 Hz
800 x 600 @ 55 to 153 Hz
832 x 624 @ 55 to 144 Hz
1024 x 768 @ 55 to 120 Hz
1152 x 870 @ 55 to 105 Hz
1280 x 1024 @ 55 to 89 Hz
1600 x 1200 @ 55 to 76 Hz

I may take the ram back, Newegg has PC 2700 for less money.

My current system is

MSI K7 Ultra 266
AMD 1 gigahertz (don't know the model)
Soundblaster live
Nvidia Gforce 2
KDS 17 in monitor

It will be my first computer I have built from scratch. Quite an upgrade for me.
After a year or so I will give it to my son and build me another one. Maybe I'll win the lotto and money won't be an issue! :wootrock:

That's a very nice monitor, I'm sure you'll love it. I think, if I were laying out that much for the system, and I was already earmarking $150 for a vid card, I'd have to scrape together $130 more and do it up right with a 9700 Pro. $280 should get you a 9700 Pro, and the system will tackle anything out there.

Your probably right about the vid card. I've already ordered it, but my wife said to build the kid one next so I will get a better card in a couple of months.

Is this alot of money for a system like this?

I thought I was being pretty frugal.

The prices are fine. You see some cheap systems at BB
that can be had for less but the stuff in them is garbage
or you have to do the stupid rebate deals where you
get some pittance back if you remember to send
in the damn forms :-)

Nah, go for the Ti 4200 now, and in 6 months, get a Ti 4600 for like $100, by then they wont be the top card, but still be able o run anything with out a prob, kinda like the GeForce 3 was for a while

No, I don't think the price is out of line, and you can build the kid one next, give him that vid card, and go get a better one if you want at better prices yet! I think you'll like your system a lot. You kept the price reasonable, yet got the things you wanted. We DIY folks can't build one cheaper than companies that buy 100,000 lots of parts, but you can customize it to your liking, learn, and be much prouder of what you have. Let us know when you get the beast together and all.
