My first computer went out the window, I was a maintenance man for a apartment complex and I was able to pick it up cheap. But I didn't know anything about them so I got mad after about 2 days of trying to get it to work and threw it out the window, Then after fixing the window and picking up the pc I sold it for what I had in it. $100.00 . I went over to the guys house and I'll be he already was on it. GGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. It was about 10 yrs later then SHOGUN built my first PC I could get to work LOL.

Oh, that baby screamed! My buddy who got me into computers had the 12MHz, 640K Ram (he upped to 1 meg!) and a 10 meg HD, for a little over $4K. Think of how fast you could run the edlin command on that baby!

OMG, I had an 80x86 computer when you had to put in a 5 1/4 floppy disk to boot Dos up from first to run any other program. There were no hard drives then. :P Of course I was only like 10 years old, but my dad was in the industry then, so we had one. ;)

LOL. We had one of those at work. The only thing I can remember using it for was Lotus 123.

That is the computer my dad was using till I built him one two years ago. Within the last year he just started feeling comfortable with the one I built and has begun using it. The power supply on the one I built him went bad two weeks ago and he was back using the old one to write letters. I have since replaced his power supply but his antique still sits next to the new pc with his dot-matrix printer all hooked up.

SO what you are saying is that the 15yr old POS puter outlasted the one you built a couple years ago? :w00t:

Yep, and it is tough prying it out of my dads hands. It was my first pc build and I bought a bare-bones system cheap at a computer show. That was my first and last barebone system purchase.

Man, you guys are making me feel old! My first computer was a Commodore 64 back when I was 4 (1986).

1MHz processor
64KB SSSD Floppy (1581 drive, that POS)
64KB RAM
16 Colors

How do you run programs from the disk? No command other than

load "*",8,1

That would load the first program (usually the only program) from the disk. I remember getting frustrated by running into the memory limitations of it.

In '90 I got a 4.77MHz 8086.

I remember the Commodor64. That was one bad ass machine back then. My first was made by Atari back in the same era. I can not remember the cpu speed or how much memory it had. It had a cassette tape drive with it. I had a book with all sorts of little programs that could be typed in. Like one that would make a stick figure guy walk across the screen. It took hours to type in all those lines of Basic just to see a stick figure walk across the screen. I was around 10 years old then.

My first PC was a Schneider-Amstrad with b/w screen, one large floppy drive (extendable to two large floppy drives...oh I miss turning that close switch) and the memory (HD) of that rig was 512K large

and the first game I got addicted to on that machine was 'Digger' (where you drive in a digging tank, collect the diamonds, eat the bags of cash and ditch the mice that chase you)
