We'll see if these marks are duplicated elsewhere, but I expect they will be. For that much 'improvement', I'd have to go with a 9700 Pro for $130 less. We're getting a big tax check, think I could slip a $270 purchase past the little lady?

yeah, thanks for the article. that is what I am figuring also. The 9700 hits the mark, and some of the local discount
retailers are going to have the ati 9700 pros available shortly... If you needed more speed, you could possibly
overclock it, but that would be overkill with todays games... (waiting for doom II)

i always look at the technology before the speed. if both cards have the same gpu, and one is only a bit faster i stick with the best value. i wonder what the pciexpress cards are going to do regarding performance. we will have to wait till 2004 for that if it does in fact take off.

Yeah, and it seems like the 9800s are just faster 9700s, not much new there. I hadn't heard of pciexpress cards, I'll have to look them up, but there are some other contenders that could muddy the video card market stream sometime, like the new S3, and, who knows, maybe the Bitboyz "Glaze" cards will appear out of the vapor someday. I'll have to sit tight with my GF4, unless I feel compelled to get a new toy, but if I do, it'll likely be a 9700 Pro.

Maybe this will give nVidia a chance to catch up.
