View Full Version : OK, I made some changes to the UT servers.

I have reduced the maxrate to 7000, which should support an average cable speed. It will support faster connections, but those people will be limited to the bandwidth that they can suck from the rest of us. This is an experimental tryout to see how it affects lag to the other players. I believe the lag that you have been experiencing is due to the fact that some really strong connections were playing at the same time, and sucking up all the bandwidth. Their pings and game were phenomenal while some others kinda floundered :)

Lemme know how this works. I have also turned down the maxplayers to 11, with a max spectators of 1. I converted the Bombing Run port back over to DM and also set it to max 11/1 like the other one. They are called:

GameMecca.net-=St.Louis=-DM1
GameMecca.net-=St.Louis=-DM2

These servers have been full day and night since I started them. They are really popular, and hopefully some of the other Server Admins will join me in supporting the most popular game right now hint, hint. :)

can you run one with quad speed and low gravity????? not instagib, I can not stand running in slow motion, and the game has just came out for most, you can expect alot more people playing this weekend.... :P

You have the ranks wrong.

The actual rank column that you were looking at is some weird formula they have which I think is explained in their FAQ. The higher that number the better. The column you want to look at is the N° column.

Here is an explanation of how they rank:

How does ranking work?

Ranking is based on ELO Chess ranking.
Everyone starts with the lower rank limit 0, points are based on how often you trigger positive personal score events, e.g. kills, captures, assists etc. Against you score deaths, suicides, teamkills, the other team scoring points against your team etc.
The worse the other player or team is, against whom you score, the less points you will get, so ripping of weak opponents will get you less rank points, than beating a stronger (in rank) opponent.

What's nice about this is that the old cSports method of whoever plays most is ranked #1 is gone.

Man, these stats are detailed beyond belief!

I noticed that there are some great players with really low ranks, who gain a bunch of ranks every match. If you play those great players before they attain great ranks, your rank doesn't go up much. It matters who you play and what their rank is. The higher ranked the person you beat, the more points you get for beating them. Likewise, these guys that are great who haven't been playing enough to get their high ranks can beat you and knock the sh*t out of your score and really make theirs jump. It will be interesting to see how this all unfolds once everybody has been playing for a while.

Sal I noticed you play on other servers too. Is the player base there as tough as on our server?

I like how it tells you how much your rank went up or down every match. You can know how badly a game hurt your rank or how much it helped.

I also noticed, Sal, your efficiency is way up to 60% now. Impressive...most impressive.

I jumped on about 9 or so. There were some real gamers on at the time. Now that I think about it, let's look at the stats :D

3rd place here (http://ut2003stats.epicgames.com/matchID.php?matchID=29042&modID=1&playerID=-1) and I came in a few minutes late.

3rd place here (http://ut2003stats.epicgames.com/matchID.php?matchID=28750&modID=1&playerID=-1)and I joined 8 minutes late!

After that I tried some bombing run. You gotta love these stats. There is no more lying or hiding behind aliases. You are tied to your stats no matter what :D I can now look back and see every match I played.

Yeah, HERE (http://ut2003stats.epicgames.com/matchID.php?matchID=28009&modID=1&playerID=-1), I believe was the only match I won last night, and HERE (http://ut2003stats.epicgames.com/matchID.php?matchID=28222&modID=1&playerID=-1) was the closest I came to that ZenOps guy. Man he was awesome. I really think I had a bad night tho...I wasn't nearly as efficient as I have been. Hopefully it will be a different story next time I play him.

LOL look at the next score down in that second game...7 Hehe.

Acually it doesn't bother me like it did in Sam. In Sam I felt like I had to win because if I didn't there would be screenies everywhere. I don't feel any pressure to win playing UT and that is refreshing.
