I used to be able to see who else was reading the topic at the bottom of the screen of the forum or thread I was viewing. Has this been changed? :hmmm:

methinks that was done perhaps to lower cpu/memory utilization...
The site was pretty laggy this morning.

jim is right. lots of ppl had delayed loading of pages so sal has temporarily moved that off of there until he takls to the server and gets it faster again. then he'll put it back on.

Hmm there must be an issue with the server's SQL database then, if he needed to dissable this feature.

I think that some of the huge threads need to be closed. They are cute
and all that, but opening one takes 1 - 2 seconds compared to .2 seconds
for a regular topic. That doesn't sound like a lot, but when you multiply
it by thousands of hits it is probably dragging the system down somewhat...

There was a problem with our database server over the last couple of days. I took down that feature to lower the hit on the database until our host figures out what's wrong. Everything seems good now but I want to make sure it is good for a day or two in a row before I re-enable that feature.

That really shouldn't be an issue as it only retrieves the set number of posts per page, no matter how large the topic is.

It wasn't dying on the size of the query, it was dying just connecting to the database and running the syntax of each one. Less queries mean less trips to the database so for the next day or so, you'll have to guess who's reading your thread :D

dunno, i just look at the script execution time on the bottom,
and it is a lot higher for the big threads...
