Hi to the whole GM-Community.
I got a big problem with my UT2K3. :?
I bought it in the deep mornig hours on the day it came out here in Germany. I installed it and played. Until it crashed.
It told me about a General Protection Fault with my Displaydrivers. So I dated them up, but even now it crashes. Somtimes with the GPF and sometimes it reboots my whole system.
If anybody knows how to fix it please post it. Thx a lot.

My Spec.:
Athlon XP 2100+
Asus A7V 333
512 MB DDR 333
GeForce 4 Ti 4200 128 MB
Creative Labs Audigy
for all the latest drivers

Is the video card overclocked? Try uninstalling the drivers and doing a fresh install (the drivers) with the 40.71 drivers. Do you have MSN? I can sent you the drivers if you don't have them.

Here is where I would look for an answer. It's InfoGames forum just for UT2003.

Thanks Shogun, but I already knew this one and the only thing I found till now is a lot more players who have the same problem but no solution by now.

One other thing, The 40.52 drivers were not for XP, They were for Win9X. You might have corupted the drivers by installing them and need this utility that cleans outs all the previous Nvidia drivers and reinstall the correct drivers. Im not sure where to find it. Sorry.

Here's a link to all the drivers that were released for XP to see what I'm talking about.

Well this site says that the 40.52s were designed to work with XP.
http://www.guru3d.com/files/detonator/ Who knows? I would trust what the Nvidia site says first. They have the cleaning tool I was talking about on that site. Here is the direct link to it. http://www.jester2k.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/jester2kdetfix.htm

Again thanks to you Shogun. IŽll try it.
And to Machine: I installed the DX version which is on the UT2K3 CD, it was newer than mine.

To anyone who is getting a general protection fault, the cause is most likely bad memory. I have 2 sticks of Mushkin PC2100 512ddr. Well as it turns out, one of the sticks has some bad addresses in it. The funny thing is that I have had the memory since March, and was not aware that it was bad until about 20 min ago. I actually recommend that everyone tests their memory with this program, http://www.memtest86.com/ download version 3.0. You will need a blank floppy disk, because this program runs independently from your operating system. It found about 12 bad memory addresses in one of my sticks. The other stick tested fine. Thankfully, it is Mushkin it has a lifetime warranty. I just got off the phone with them (man they have great tec support) and they are overnighting a new module to me, no charge. :) So right now I am running the Ut2k3 demo with one stick of 512 pc2100 ddr with no problems. I am awaiting the arrival of the full version, it was supposed to be here already. :(

Well Slice, I ran the memorytest as well, actually 25 times and over 9 hours, no bad mem in my system, but still the GPF in UT2K3.

Another thing to check is the clock of your memory in bios. Make sure that it is not overclocked by accident. Also do you have the win service pack 1 installed? (that would be for Win XP)
