Ouch nVidia

Futuremark, creators of the 3DMark03 benchmark, has accused 3D graphics vendor nVidia of cheating on its 3DMark2003 benchmark. According to Futuremark, when it implemented a trivial change to the benchmark, nVidia's performance dropped by almost 25%, while other vendors' performance stayed within the margin of error. The company identified eight areas where nVidia's driver seems to detect benchmark behavior, and then falsely optimize performance.

Oh, they have a pdf that goes into great detail about what was done.
It really erodes my confidence in nvidia, especially when they have
developed a pattern of cheating in order to boost scores.
It all comes down to the consumer getting ripped off, and that sucks.

The first major problem was with Unreal2. A lot of the textures did not run properly. Fixed in a later version. Right now as I&#39;m typing this I&#39;m fixing to format my hard drive because of some issues with 2d. The screen is ,for a lack of a better tem, twitching. After installing the latest drivers, my screen just waves and twitches continuously. Very annoying. I have uninstalled the drivers and went back to an earlier version and it is still here. I know it is not my monitor because it does not do it in BIOS or after I uninstall the video drivers.

True about nVidia&#39;s drivers. Hell, I can&#39;t complain, I run UT03 on an nVidia Vanta LT 16mb AGP card with pretty good performance, better than my GeForce2 onboard 32mb video http://smilies.crowd9.com/otn/love/icon_smile_blush.gif

I had some similiar problems but not twitching but major clipping in some games. I have finally just stuck to the 7.83 driver version. It seems to be the most stable for my system anyway. There are a few games where I still get clipping and I can&#39;t stand it. I upgraded my mb to the latest bios and it helped a bit, but overall I am not impressed with ATI&#39;s drivers.

I doubt it very much. I have read other reviews of the card with its drivers and their attempt to have the same updates as Nvidia to compete with them. Honestly my system was way more stable with my Nvidia GEForce TI 4600, then my ATI 9700.

Sal, your post failed to mention that ATI is accussed of doing basically the same thing in the link you have there. So neither company can be trusted in benchmarks. Guess they&#39;re both just trying to put FutureMark (or whatever their name is this week) out of business.

As far as video cards and stability goes, I worked at a computer store for 3 years and ATI always had a hard time keeping up with the newer games with texture problems and driver issues. However, this was back in the days when the GF3 was king of the crop.

I will say that ATI has a much MUCH better warranty than any companies that I ever dealt with that distributed nVidia cards. 3 Years and no questions asked is a hard policy to beat.
