I just installed it on my freshly-formatted AMD box and got the same exact problem. After clicking a few options in settings, it'd just toss me to the desktop again and again w/o any error messages.

I DID buy the game, and the same copy installed fine on my P4 box.

The only difference between the two boxes setup-wise that I can tell that could be the reason behind this getting kicked back to the desktop deal is that the AMD has two hard drives and a cd rom and the P4 only has one hard drive and cd rom. On the AMD I have the cd rom set as slave to the second master hard drive. The reason I suspect this to be the culprit is that once I cracked* the game, the problem went away since the game no longer looks for the cd and all is fine now.

*I only use cracks because I hate putting cds in the cd drive to play games I purchased, plus my daughter has sticky fingers most of the time and she's a bit of a gamer now too, heh. You should see her spank down on those card dudes in Alice, hehe.

Hey Outrider, as G said I send him a no cd patch, which shall fix your problem as well until a patch is released. Go nad try it man hope it will help you too. The patch can be found here:

http://www.ina-community.com/forums/showthread.php?s=aacb5f93b42f10a33190d8875905b384&threadid=212982

BTW: If anybody of you knows how to fix a damn General Protection Fault please let me know. I posted my problem here:
http://www.gamemecca.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1512

and it still doesn´t work. I tried a lot more now, turn of sound, changed to 16bit colors, modified my UT2K3.ini, but absolutly nothing did work on it. I am glad to have helped slayer and hope to help Outrider as well. Cause it suxx damn hard when u can play the "Holy Shit", but never know for sure how long.

If anyone of you has got other problems look here:
Game crashes to desktop without any error message:
--------------------------------------------------

This most likely is caused by our CD copy protection scheme. Please
contact Infogrames technical support for help.

Game crashes a lot with different error messages:
-------------------------------------------------

The game is certainly not bug free but if you experience a lot of
crashes in different parts of the game you might want to check out
memtest86 to ensure that the crashes are not caused by bad memory.

http://www.memtest86.com/

Random freezes/ hangs/ bluescreens/ reboots:
--------------------------------------------

If you are overclocking any of your system components please revert
to the default clock rate even though other games and 3DMark might
run fine with your timings. Overclocking is a very common cause of
hangs/ freezes.

Please ensure that your GPU and CPU are not overheating. Having a
lot of fans sometimes isn't enough to guarantee a good air flow
inside the case as something could be blocking the air flow inside
your case causing your GPU or CPU to overheat and therefore lock
the system. Keep in mind that heat builds up very quickly. A lot of
customers have found that either ensuring proper cooling or
underclocking their cards have resulted in a more stable gaming
experience.

You should use the default "Software 3D Audio" for sound output and
you could also try playing without sound (-nosound on the command
line) to eliminate sound as the source of your problems.

If you have a lot of system components in your machine you might
want to ensure that your power supply can handle your system. This
has helped a couple of our customers.

Sometimes installing graphic card drivers over older versions
causes problems so you might want to try using a tool like Detonator
Destroyer for NVIDIA drivers to uninstall your existing drivers before
upgrading to the 40.71 drivers.
http://www.guru3d.com/detonator-destroyer/

A lot of customers reported the 40.71 NVIDIA's drivers help with
random lock ups so you might want to give those a try

http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=winxp-2k_40.71
http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=win9x_40.71

As an alternative to the D3D renderer you could try using the OpenGL
renderer as it might offer increased stability at a slight decrease
in performance and visual quality (no character shadows). To switch
from using the D3D renderer to using the OpenGL renderer please
change the following lines in your UT2003.ini from

[Engine.Engine]
RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=Engine.NullRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice

to

[Engine.Engine]
;RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=Engine.NullRenderDevice
RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice

At least one customer was able to resolve random lockups by setting
NoDynamicLighting to true in his UT2003.ini file. It seems to just
shadow the issue but hey, better than locking up ;)

VIA chipsets in combination with NVIDIA cards and AMD CPUs seem to
be a constant source of trouble. Below are some helpful links:

You could also try turning off write combing in Windows XP in the
Display Properties -> Advanced -> Troubleshooting tab.

If you are running Windows 2000 on an AMD CPU you want to apply
