I was involved in a string on Croteam Forums about two weeks ago on just this topic. I scan their topics looking for all the information I can get this way.

A couple of the senior members of the Croteam forum seem to think Croteam will make some kind of announcement some time in August of this year.

Because of the lag problem, and other bugs like swimming, competition form other games like UT, from what they are saying Croteam is trashing the Engine and writing it from scratch again. They say this is among other reasons is why there has been no release or news from Croteam.


They also say that the reason they are not saying anything about a new release is because they are saving it for one big release that will sweep the world. They do not want other gamers to take any of their ideas before they can release it and use them in their own games. Most games have a pre release before the major one. Take the SS Demo for example. Several game software company’s instantly pirated ideas from them.

It's hard to believe, but Croteam is a small garage door software company that wrote a game that took the world by storm. They do not have a big bankroll to keep high priced lawyers in place to fight these pirates. Their conception is, if there is any leak in development, then the others will get their hands on it and ruin the release of SS version 2. As Chyliniak mentions for those that do not know First Encounter and Second Encounter are just SS version 1.

Keep your trigger finger warm, when SS 2 does come, it is going to be SWEET. :jammin:

I had heard they planned releasing SS2 in 2003 ....... but if there trashing their old engine then who konws when ! Just hope its not a Duke Nukem take for ever! :oooo:

I dont think so. From what I heard, they have been working on the Engine for sometime now. Since SS The Second Encounter.

i heard from severl places online and places in computer stores and other ppl that it's SS2 is expected to be out in stores by november. the demo sometime late in october.... just what i heard, but several ppl said that, so i hope they are right.

i dont believe any of that crap!!!!!!! i would believe they are releasing a patch first before i believed they were going to release a new game. the company sucks and regardless of a garage company they should just sell there technology to a real company. i will not download there new software from kazaa again---i mean i will not buy there software again :P
