Can reproduce the HAMMERtime map from Quake2 for UT2003.

Long ago in my days of fame at HAMMERtown.net, a buddy of mine who was an award-winning mapmaker and all-around legend at making some seriously killer maps, made me a map called HAMMERtime. This map was famous! On the servers, everybody wanted to download and play on it. It attracted hundreds of players to my games.

So...

Here's the deal. I will see to it that your map is the Shot Heard 'Round the World, since I can dig up about a hundred players that love that map from the old days. This map will gain you tons of recognition, I guarantee it. If recognition is not your thing, then I at least will pay 50 bucks to the one that can do it. The map is not that complex, but I want it done right.

I have two conditions:

1. NOBODY sees this map before you finish it and I agree that it's up to the standards set forth.

2. The map has to be approved by me to receive my 50 beans. I work hard for my money, and don't waste it.

That's the deal.

Please understand that I am not shy at all, and I will tell you that your map sucks if it does, but will praise you like a Man-God if you get it right.

Here is the map from Quake2:

[i:341d4d604b][b:341d4d604b]HAMMERtime![/i:341d4d604b][/b:341d4d604b] (http://128.242.149.196/public/hamtime.zip)

Please acquire a copy of Quake2 and fire it up. Look around, and try to make it.

I don't care if the walls say any words like they do in the original, I just want the shape. I want it to be called HAMMERtime too.

I offer you fame, recognition, and 50 bucks if you can do this for me. Trust me...I will make good on my end of it.

Go to work guys!

P.S. Don't even try this unless you are a master mapmaker...no cheesy sh*t please, I don't want to be forced to insult your work :)

Just extract that zipfile to your Quake2 directory, and restore the folder names.

Guys...it looks like I might have found the original legendary HAL9000!

I might be able to persuade him to remake this for UT.

Here's the blurb from his original mappack:

HAMTIME - HammerTime. A large 'arena' type level
made for my bud HAMMER's Lithium server.
Good for 2-10 players. BUG: one small HOM
(Hall Of Mirrors) appears when looking across
from chaingun to far side at supershotgun.

Oh, I hope he comes here and hangs with us. This dude is the UBERmapper of all mappers.

Check out his work at http://www.whatthehal.com/maps.html

Damn sweet looking maps.

I found him! WAHOOOO!

I swear to Gawd I looked for HAL like a year ago to no avail. He must have disappeared from all reality for a while.

He says he is going to post here soon.

I would be so tripped out if he makes this new map for us.

I'm sure Willy Trombone and outrider will vouch for the quality of maps that this freak-on-a-leash made back in the day :)

He's got my vote on that. Those are GREAT looking maps!

I haven't kept up with his history, but he used to make maps for some of the more notorious sites, and currently does so for a site called Gamedesign.net. His maps were included in the OFFICIAL RELEASE of the Quake pack from ID Software!

I don't know bro...I hope he MODERATES our mapping forum. I wish he'd get his ass over here already....

HAMMER

You know, it took him like an hour to make HammerTime. LOL

Guys used to freak out at how he could pump maps out...he'd make a couple a week that would blow HammerTime away.

I never had the patience for that sh*t.

This makes me curious. What is your gaming background, Hammer? Sounds like you were a Quake man. What happened to that? Was it your first FPS? Did Sam then steal you away?

Wouldn't mind hearing from some others, actually. Machine - where were you before Sam? How about you, Slice? Sas? Sal and DL? Anyone? Perhaps i should start a new thread. <chuckle>

This is my first FPS foray, being relatively new to computing, so my story is only just beginning.. <walks off into sunset grinning happily>

<Cue "Big" soundtrack and the approaching sound of a half dozen Velociraptors..>

Oh the 50 bucks wasn't intended to lure HAL for sure...I'm sure he has better things to do, that was for the other mapmakers that just make maps for fun. I will still pay it tho to whomever can produce this map. I'd love to play on good ole HammerTime again :)

So if I make the map, do I get the $50 ? heheheheh

There is one major problem -- I've never touched UnrealED, as I'm no fan of any of the Unreal games. I even tried out UT2003. Installed the demo. Looked at it. Said to myself, "Hmmm Quake3," then uninstalled it. Doh!

Hammer is correct about the original HAMMERTime map though. I think it literally took about one hour to make. I think I did a Q3 version of it at one point; I'd have to dig through the /maps folder and find it.

There was also the ill-fated HAMMERTime2 map for Quake2. It sucked... bad. But it had pre-Quake3 jumppads in it! Heh :)

I don't have quake2 but maybe if you post some detailed screen shots I can let you know if its something I would be interested in reproducing.
