Quake 1

Am I the only one on these forums who still plays Quake1 today?
A lot of you I’m sure used to play this “oldie” and I’m sure a lot of you consider it to be just a dead old dirty game that no one plays. I’m here to educate!

I’ve been playing the first quake for about 3 years now, and I can say that it has to be the best game ever made. Quake 1 has I can say the fastest and most exciting game play I’ve ever experienced in my life.

Quake1 also has changed a lot. It’s no longer a crappy pixilated game made for a 166. Some of the newer clients have higher textures, mp3 players, demo editors, server browsers and much much much more. Here’s a few screenshots for you guys…

True never played Quake 1 but I have played Q2 it kinda like SSam. Its Q3 all the way for me now.

yea, I've done a lot of quake3, i've won 4 tournaments CA. I've made my mark.. I'm slowly getting into Ut2k3 now.. ;) .. but Q1 is my roots, and i'm glad it was... You aquire mad reflexes from that game.

Ive looked at the second video you posted and I'm pretty impressed!
I never knew what is possible with Q1. The frags and the strafejumps/rocketjumps/grenadejumps/axejumps can definitely keep pace with Q3 and co ;)

I liked Q1, it was actually the Mac Daddy when it came out. Alot of people still compare the fast paced deathmatch to other modern games. Playing it now though, I just don't like the feel of the mouse movements. Imo, Q3 is still the king when it comes to insane speed and physics. I was truly hoping that UT2003 was going to be the "Quake killer" that it was hyped to be, but I feel it came up short. It's still a good game, the graphics are amazing, but I just don't feel it advances gameplay significantly. Doesn't look like Q4 will take the reigns either, supposed to be little or no multiplayer support. :bandhead:

I had played it on LAN together with friends pretty cute game :thumbs:

i got back into quake1 when i read about the Tenebrae engine mod, too bad there new version wont be for quake1 anymore. I still have the last version they released, with all the remade textures to make it extra nice. I tried playing multiplayer but it was delayed as hell, even with 110 ping.

you dont need quakeworld, quakeworld is just optimizations for 56k players.

What&#39;s the name of that addon/program/whatever you want to call it that makes Q1 work better with OpenGL? I&#39;m not talking about GLQuake. I can&#39;t remember the name, But it lightens the Gamma settings for non-voodoo cards.

QuakeWorld is what like 90% of the Q1 community plays now.. Netquake didnt have good netcode/compansation.
