I have a question, I currently have DSL at a advertised speed of 960/960 I have the opportunity to get cable at a advertised speed of 1.5/256 My question is, if I switched to the faster download but lowered my upload with the cable Internet how much would this help or hurt my gaming ping rate? What would you guys suggest for gaming? Stay with 960/960 or move to 1.5/256?
:hmmm: I think both are pretty good for gaming. A faster DL speed means faster porn though.

Depends on what you what to do you can host a lot more things if you keep your DSL you wont really notice a diffence in game speed but you will notice it when down loading files i think its an extra 64kb/sec or something like that but that up to you......whats the price differance?

For ping and gaming concerns, I'd think Cable would be better, as you DL more than Upload with it, in my understanding. If you're running a server, that may not be so; the UL advantage might be the better.

price is about $8 cheaper for the 1.5 down 256 up cable. I dont host many games but I do like to play on the servers. I just wondered if it would be cheaper and more bang for my buck or if I would loose alot by the slower up load speed. For gaming that is.

I think 256 up would be plenty for gaming if you don't host. The big question is which is more reliable and has the least packet loss. Your DSL is pretty good, especially the up speed. If you have had good luck with your DSL, and you mostly just game, I would stay with it, IMHO.

Id stick with what you have if you dont have any problems unless you do alot of downloads you wont notice the diffenace in gaming anyway

There is a lot of chat about this, however if you were interested in ping to a server, then I would do a trace route to the game servers and find out the ping with cable. Then get the DSL but make the company agree that you will not be charged a damn thing if it doesn't hold a candle to what you have now or you don't like it. Don't cancel the cable and get the DSL and test it out for a few days. If you like it cancel the cable, if you don't like it no harm done. ;)

If you want to host a server, having the faster upload speed helps....as far as the difference with the 1.5 mb or 960k download I really don't think you will see a difference....reason being that the only place I ever see an actual download speed of 1.5 is at dsl reports or pcpitstop.....when I watch my download speeds off of web pages or ftp sites I never see it reach 500k.
