Islamabad - Security authorities closed video shops in the city of Jalalabad, eastern Afghanistan, to save school children from waywardness, a news report said on Tuesday.

About 300 shops in the city were closed and the campaign would also be taken to villages, the Afghan Islamic Press agency said.

"We went after the shops because they were turning school children truants and spoiling their morals," security official Behram Khan told the private news agency.

Khan also said that other shop owners should stop their video game businesses voluntary or face stern action.

The anti-video campaign is reminiscent of the days of the radical Islamic Taliban which banned films, music and dish antennas.

The entertainment industry has been revived in Afghanistan since the United States war on terrorism ousted the Taliban in the winter of 2001.

I understand that. But the fundamentalists seem to want to take away what they do have. They thrive on keeping the population generally submissive. They will never grow as a people or a nation that way.

This is only the 1st step. The sat dishes will be next, and then they will be back to only reading the government run newspapers. :bandhead:

What makes you think we are gonna leave? Now that we control both Iraq and Afganistan, we have Iran sorrounded. We will never give up our presence in either country. And Iran is next.
