View Full Version : Sig Limit Tomorrow...

SALvation
07-25-2003, 06:25 PM
The maximum characters in sigs will be changed to 2000 tomorrow. This limit includes characters used in code in your sigs so take a minute to copy it from your profile and check it in something like Word to see how many characters it takes.

You'd be surprised how much code adds to the characters. My sig right now is just under 1,000 characters.

Actually Sauron's sig size is fine. If he posts a one-line message then the message + sig = the same size as avatar + stuff under the avatar.

I don't really see why this is an issue anyway. 95% of the members here have broadband as far as I can tell. And some of the ones on dial-up, like Herbus, have already said they don't care either way.

I think it goes a little beyong dial up. The fact that if you have a huge sig and have to make your scroll wheel smoke to get to the bottom of the page, well that is a little redicilous (excuse the spellings  )

A sig should be something about you, who you are, something that when people see, they will say, "hey that reminds me of so and so" not a long poem, big pics, ect.

Plus, I think there are more people on dial up here then what we know. Even those that go on vacation, sometimes are on dial up to check in and all. Waiting for stuff to load, well on a dial up, that is a big turn off. If it doesn't load fast or quickly, then don't put it in your sig.

Single pics are good. That is how it should be. Any text over 3 lines, do you really think people read that?

Drunk?? :hmmm: Please don't call me a drunk, because you don't even know me. I don't think anyone was out of line, just speaking their mind and all and having a good time.

Sirc, you had a lot of text in your sig, so you are no angel to this, and there are lots of others that had a ton of stuff on their sigs. I could name people, but I would be here all night.

Just put one thing in your sig and be done with it. Make it load fast and you have nothing to worry about.

Sirc, you had a lot of text in your sig, so you are no angel to this, and there are lots of others that had a ton of stuff on their sigs. I could name people, but I would be here all night.
I'm not trying to make myself out as an angel. :P

And I think I had already removed my text before you posted this, even though it was far under the 2000 character limit. So there. :P

We needed a limit because someone would eventually try to crash the forums by abusing the limit. 50k was the default and was never changed, so I came up with 2,000 out of my ass. End of story. :D

Is there a filesize limit on the pictures?

I'd post the limits I'd make, but I'd get booed off the forum. ;)
