DL gone BATTY!!!

Funny story, last night a bat found its way into my house. Not sure how he did it, but he did. I spent almost 2 hours chasing him down as he flew all over the place. Quite a sight I was, running around in my shorts swatting at it with a yard rake.

Moral of the story, bats are slippery little guys, and they love to dive bomb you. Not fun. :)

Unfortunately he landed on a window sill in one of our bedrooms. I had the window open so he could fly out. He got wedged in and when I went to close the window to get him out.. I think it broke his wing. I just picked him up and put him in a bag and brought him to the woods. I laid him down in the woods and he was moving a little and showing his teeth to me. He might be ok, but I am unsure how long a bat can live with a broken wing.

BTW, yes bats do have wicked looking fangs. :)

My dad is a part of "Bat Conservation International (BCI) "well occasionially he will get a phone call from a old lady or a buesness about a bat of some sort that has flown into the building or home. Usially we both go to the location and catch the bat and we place it in a temp bat env in our home and my dad will take care of it then release it when its ready to leave. If the bat you found that has sadly broken his wing in a encounter with you and it really did break then that bat will most likly suffer a yet painfull death not only from the broken wing also from other pests that may slowly feed off the wounded bat. :bawling: As for taking a rake or anything towards it is a big no no on your part things like this should be handled carefully and respectfully. As for if the bat was showing teeth the best thing to do is to leave it alone cause most likly it feels quite threatened by you and can bite and that can cause serious damage to you if bitten. It&#39;s too bad that there was no local volunteer to remove the bad safly without harm being caused towards the bat. Hopefully in the future more and more people will volunteer to help save bats by joing a local community like BCI.

but if there was a vollenteer i would most definately have paid any amount to get the creepy little bastard out of the house. :thumbs:

thats halarious DL.. bats are funny.

one time when i was at my friends cabin, we caught one with a fishing net. they were flying low over the dock by the lake. we then put it in a glass container and took some pictures. they got them some nasty fangs eh? but they are cute.

we let ours go, without any broken wings though, i hope your lil friend made it.
