It still hangs up on me when I hit submit after replying. Is this happening to anyone else?

I think I found the problem. It's the smilies, there's too many of them and they are slowing down posting for some reason. As a test, try to disable smilies while you post and it should go super fast.

Disable them where? At the bottom of replies or in profile? Is it a problem with a certain few of them or are we using too many smilies?

When you are posting, there is a checkbox "Disable Smilies in this post". I think we just have too many so I will delete some of the non-used ones.

I am still having this problem at home also. The smilies are loading now and the topic review at the bottom is working now too but it hangs when replying to posts. Even if I don't add any smilies.

the only problem i have is when i login all new posts are shown but when i accidantly close the Window and reopen it the new post marks are gone
but i think to fix that i just have to be more careful :)

It seems to be working okay right now and I didn't have the problem at work at all so I am not sure what the problem is. :(

It just did it to me again replying to a thread that only had 4 smilies in it. I did not check the disable smilies box though. Also the admin panel is doing the same thing and there are no smilies in it.

When you checked the box did it post faster? Also, it doesn't matter if you are using smilies in your post or not. If you check the box it seems to work fast.

No it didn't post faster becuase it just sits there and will not go anywhere. That's why people are double and triple posting. They think it is not adding there reply and they just keep clicking submit. I have to click on the forum link to get out of it.

I hope this solves the posting problems. What I did was look through the code that handles the posting. There is a function in there that adds your post to a master search table as soon as you post. Well since we have had so many posts on this board, the search table is huge! 400,000 rows to be exact. So what I did was comment out the function that talked to the search table and so far it looks like it is working.
Lemme know if it is going faster for you guys.
I'm still having the same problems. :(
Also, if you don't update the search table will the view new posts since last visit thingy still work?
Is it possible that it is sitting and waiting for confirmation that the search table was updated? Which it will never receive now that you skipped the update subroutine?
It still just hangs when I hit the submit button. Well, sometimes it does and sometimes not. It hangs about 50% of the time.

Nope Machine. No probs here. I am at work, and it hangs up sometimes, but that is because they have a slow ass connection. When I am at home where I have cable, I don't have any probs what so ever. Everything loads, no double posts. Every once in a blue moon, I get a page that can't be displayed, but hit refresh, and it comes right up!
Has Sal checked on the status of the server? Could by chance it be over loaded with the number of people on it? I know we have a lot of people there, and who knows whatelse is on the server that hosts this site, but if could cause conflicts like some of you are having. Could always ping the site when you try to post, and it hangs up. If you get a bad ping or lose any packets, that could be why.
Just a thought.

Have you tried pinging the site? If you get a good ping over and over without packet loss, I would say that it isn't your connection, something in the forums just doesn't like you very well.

Something is still screwed up. Sometimes posts don't show up for me either, but they eventually show up. Sal mentioned that posts with smilies seem to take longer and I've noticed that too.....Maybe we are just running out of space.

For the past 3 days each time I log onto GameMecca for the 1st time it says there are NO new messages since my last visit. Is this happening to anyone else or do you guys just not post when I'm not around? :wink: :D

It happened to me yesterday. I hadn't been on since last Friday and I briefly saw a screen showing new posts and then it loaded again and I had nothing new. Posts are still loading slow as heck sometimes still as well....
Dang. Now I'm gonna have to manually search for new posts, and probably miss half of them. :x

Yea, seems to work better. I will test it out at work. That is where I have the problems at. They say there connection to the net is direct from Canada, and I am in Iowa, so that is a long ass cable. That is also why when I go to croteam.com there (at work with the canada connection) I don't get the croteam.com page that I do here at home. wierd
