prediction is just as it says, it predicts all your movements and actions and then compares it to the server.

You can change your predictions easly.

Theres a command for it. I don't gonna give it out.

If you setup prediction 20, your movement will be fast and no moving lags in highest pings, but players might teleport on higher pings (good for high pingers)

10 is default of SS2.

and 0 is used to play on own server or by LAN.

no prediction means no ressurection stuff but in turn it means laggy gameplay.

try this. it's in your ss\scripts map

persistent extern user INDEX cli_bPrediction=(INDEX)1;
persistent extern user INDEX cli_iMaxPredictionSteps=(INDEX)10; :wave:
persistent extern user INDEX cli_bPredictIfServer=(INDEX)0;
persistent extern user INDEX cli_bPredictLocalPlayers=(INDEX)1;
persistent extern user INDEX cli_bPredictRemotePlayers=(INDEX)0;
persistent extern user FLOAT cli_fPredictEntitiesRange=(FLOAT)100;
persistent extern user FLOAT cli_fPredictionFilter=(FLOAT)0.5;

Sams prediction us pretty crappy compared to Q3. But ANY prediction is better than nothing.

The long and short of it is that it take time to send packets back and forth and it's unlikely that you're going to be getting updates from the server at the same rate as your video card is displaying frames. This means there has to be some interpolation (averaging) to smooth out the movement so everyone doesn't just appear and disappear all the time. I'm not how the logistics are worked out in SS, but somehow I don't think they take velocity into account (hence the side to side major prediction flaw that everyone exploits).

I use his commands, but i dont gonna give out good settings for it :D .
All people need to setup different, coz it depends on how pings you have etc etc.

:hmmm: I experimented with turning prediction off yesterday.
the result was that the game was unplayable.
You can't jump, movements get dropped, etc.
I also tried setting prediction to 5 then 7.
It becomes laggy and choppy.
so prediction is necessary.
I hate seeing people come back to life,
or hearing death moans and then being shot,
but no real way around that...

how about being killed and when you lay on the ground you hear the shot.
Or getting knifed and run some yards and suddenly drop dead. :hmmm:

How about expending all the ammo you have for all the weapons you have while shooting directly at someone only to have them turn and kill you with one shot. Oh wait this is about Sam, not UT2k3 sorry. :P

my ping most of the time hangs around 300 ( STOP LAUGHING DAMNIT!!! :P )
so what should i have mine set at? i have no idea what it does but if it will lighten up the lag hook me up :devil:

what about me my ping is usually 160
