What Intel have to say about it? :hmmm:

intel has a processor thats going to make you have to upgrade from the board people just bought with 800 fsb. that has to make intel fans happy after spending 200 bucks for a board and 500 or more for a cpu and it can not be upgraded. also the next cpu from intel will be a prescott which will need water cooling to keep it cool since it runs at 100wts. thats much hotter than the first athlon chips when the athlon chips came out which i think was 85 watts. rumors say that the cpu will have to clock throttle to stay cool so when you buy a 3.4 ghz chip it will only run at that speed when it's cool.

also windows 2003 sp1 will add support for amd's 64 bit. there is beta's out now of xp for amd's 64 bit. the release of xp 64 bit should be out in january febuary 04. i just want to remind everyone that this os will be able to run 32/64 bit apps on this os. as far as intel's 64 bit cpu, it will only run 64 bit or virtual 32 bit.

amd's stock is up .85 % today and there rating boosted to 7. if people listened to me last month and bought the stock, they would of made some money.

rumorville also claims ibm will buyout amd and both companies are working very closely together now. nvidia will be releasing an nforce 3 dual board also and that was announced the other day.

i love this crap

that's ok bigg. for the $400 i spent on the board and cpu I get a 3 ghz system.
that should last about a year and a half.
with the system you are talking about, prices are likely going to be
high for more than a year, ie, if you manage to get something, it
is going to cost way more than $400.
the way the computer industry goes, you can either wait, or spend
if you wait, you can wait forever.
if you spend more money, then you can enjoy the higher speeds
now while the hardware value drops. that is just the
way it is always going to be.

btw, i saw something interesting. they have a new process that can generate
real diamonds at a cost of $5/caret. it involves zapping carbon ions with a lazer
that deposit onto a surface. this is intesting for us because it may mean a new
type of wafer that is impervious to heat problem (and can prolly be clocked insanely high!)

as far as price goes i heard that the athlon 64 will be in the same bracket as the high end athlon xp chips. you can actuall buy a opteron chip now @ 2ghz for around 800 but that chip is a server chip. the server chips are basically used for higher end units and mostly clusters which amd is kicking ass around the world with. the motherboards will be priced probably around 100-200 dollars but the architecture is much better than the intel offering. each athlon64/opteron will have hypertransport technology and all other features that are on todays boards. the best thing is the athlon 64 runs at 1.5v (as far as i can remember).

now with your statement i would agree to a certain point but..... if that's how you felt than an athlon xp 2600 and nforce2 board would of been a better purchase and alot cheaper.

i would like to know if there are any p4 owners out there that bought the board in hope to be able to upgrade to the prescott in the future. i know that asus told everyone it would be possible but it's still ify.

i would also like to add that all of the athlon64 products will be able to take advantage of 64 but which will bo out sooner than most think for windows. now there were alot of people saying that we don't need it but we will benefit from it. and it wont be hard for programmers to move over to 64 bit either.

rumors also have it intel will be making a xeon with 64 bit extension. this will be needed and i wouldnt doubt it since amd has sold more opterons in a month than intel has sold itaniums 1 and 2.
