Here is my problem.
My buddy forgot hispassword and can't log in.
What can I do to bypass this and reset his password?

You can't, he's screwed. The best you can do now is put his hard drive as a slave drive in another Win2K system. That way you can at least back up the files on it before you re-install the operating system.

If it weren't this way then the password protection wouldn't be very useful.

That was assuming he is on his own computer and is the only one with admin rights.

Great I have no desire to do all that work.
Maybe I can find something that can help. :oooo:

If you find a way around the password protection in Win2K then I'm sure Microsoft would be willing to pay to find out how you did it. :P

ummm, have him type in administrator with no password.
unless he changed the acct, he should be good to go.
then he can reset his other password...

oh, and if that doesn't work, and you enjoy pain, then you can go to

i that it can crack the password if the computer is on a domain, may not be useful otherwise.

 That's true. Many people make a new account and don't password protect or remove the original default account.

If it happened in WinXP, would you be able to bypass the password? :hmmm:
