My little 1 Gig Athlon ain't cutting it any more. Yodeller, the floor in Hole, and Fortress lag out in framerates so much I can't follow anyone. Also, my crappy DSL is on the way out. The 1 year contract is up this month and I am gonna finally be moving back to RoadRunner cable. :wootrock:

I need kick ass:

Mother board
Processor ( and heatsink/fan)
Memory
Power supply
Hard drive

I'm not interested in any fancy lights or anything like that. I am willing to cut a hole in the side of my old case to put in an extra fan if need be. I'm gonna keep the case, the Audigy Gamer, and the GF4 TI 4400.

I've got my credit card ready. Show me the way! :w00t:

(PS - I'd like to stay with AMD please)

what type of memory (ram) you have and how much
what type of hard drive (model number would be good but if you know the specs would be better)

No budget, although I would like to stay with the 32 bit stuff. I'm not ready to move to 64 bit, and I don't want to wait. All of the crap I mentioned is old and slow and will be used to build a system for my youngest son. So I'm basically looking to gut my case and fill it with goodies. :w00t:

As for 2k, wouldn't everything be compatible with XP and you be able to do it on XP level? Could do a dual boot sys also, if you have 2 hd's

Sweet! Thanks. Um, I have two HDs now, and I think one of them is a 7200 rpm, but I'm not sure. I'll have to check. If so then I can use it as a second boot disk. But if not I hate to partition a single HD into two boot drives. I've had an HD go bad before and have lost everything on both partitions. That sucks. :bawling:

As for compatibily beween Win2K and Xp, yep, they are pretty much the same. But if there is a problem, and you find a potential bug in the development software, and you tell the support people that you are developing software in one OS and running it on another they will just laugh at you. It just isn't done I guess. :WTF:

well I just suggested it for the dual boot. As to how to do it, well someone else will have to tell you how, becuase I don't know. Just heard don't install XP first. Also if you deside to go this route, you can get XP fairly cheak from newegg IMO, they require you to but some hardware, but if you get a mobo, or a proc, even a simple floppy, that is considered hardware and you get it at that price. Asus rulez!!! haven't had a problem other then seeing things I never seen before due to the full use of my 9700 pro in gaming, takes time to adjust, but was for the better for sure! Plus the dual LAN could come in handly too. I would suggest an audigy 2 sound card if you don't have an offboard card. The audio on that asus board is good, but I paid like $78 or 72 for an audigy 2, and there is no comparasion in sound. Audigy PWNS! that that is all there is to it, all sound sounds different and to hear it where it comes from and how it sounds is another thing (I have 5.1 speakers so that helps too) :D

Unless you plan to overclock I would suggest paying an extra 10 bucks or so for the retail cpu.]
This way it comes with HSF and a 3 year warranty.

I always roll with Antec for my PSU's. I did have one go bad on me but I had it terribly overloaded. Their customer service department is rather good IMO.

check out Ableshoppers (http://www.ableshoppers.com) , Spoofee (http://www.spoofee.com) , SlickDeals (http://slickdeals.net) , DealNews (http://dealnews.com) , FatWallet (http://www.fatwallet.com) , TechBargains (http://www.techbargains.com) , XPBargains (http://www.xpbargains.com)

you can almost always find a deal on one of those sites at least once a week or every other week (a lot of the sites run the same deals so you don't necessarily have to check all of them)

I'd recommend Seagate, WD, or Maxtor (in no particular order). I have two of each brand in my pc now and they all work great!

Thanks everyone!

One more thing. After thinking about it I've decided to keep my current system intact, so I will need a case for the new system after all. Something cheap and basic, but good. I don't care about lights or windows or anything fancy. If it came with a PS then that would probably be best.

check the sunday circulars for drives with rebates for the best prices.
rebates are a pain, but you can get a good drive about $80 that way.
for cases, unless it is a known manufacturer with good PSs, get them
seperate. You don't want to be using a 'freebie' unit with a high end cpu.

Yellow[GummiBear]

like I said before, Antec is where I'd look... they make great cases and have really good PSU's that can come along with the case and possibly save you a few bucks than if you'd buy them separately

I just bought an Antec case kinda like that one but it is black and came with a 400 watt ps for $80. Add two 80mm fans to the list as it only comes with 2 fans in the back. You really need some fans in the front drawing air in and accross the board.

I would like to order this stuff tonight if possible. I think I'm gonna go with the SLK800 heat sink, but I need a 80mm fan recommendation to go with it. Also a recommendation for the extra case fan like Slice mentioned (something preferably quiet).

Do I need cables or will they be supplied the the HD? I don't really care about round cables unless there is a real advantage besides just looking better.

Anything else? What about thermal grease? What's best? I heard somewhere that using Artic Silver will void the warrenty on the AMD proc. :hmmm:

I would really like to be able to order everything from New Egg.

All your cables will be supplied with the MB.
As for fans I bought an Antec case and it came with 3 of the 5 fans.
I would suggest to go with the Antec fans.
Pick them up at Comp Usa for 5 bucks or so.

Go with the Artec Silver paste.
If anything happens to the Processor I dought they will care.

As for cables my Temp dropped atbout 5degrees F when I switched to round.
I wouldn't order those till you set the system up. It would suck to order cables that are too short.

I f you have any ?'s about the setup pf that board there are about 10 of us that have the same.

Normally it's speed (1300rpm at 20 șc 4800rpm at
