Server Requirements

I would like to know the minimum requirements to run a server (not dedicated) for 6-8 people. Here is what I have and it runs fair with 4 people (me included) but 5 or more and it gets real laggy.
Also are there any changes I can make inside the serious sam settings that will help.

chaintech m/b 100fsb
512mb pc100 sdram
ti 4200 w/128mb
winxp
7200rpm hd
Connection
cable modem 2mb down 256k up

I am looking at an MSI mb that will accept my pc100 until I can buy some ddr....it is a 266fsb and will accept up to a amdxp 2200 Don't know if this is a good idea or not, but it seems to be a cheap upgrade for now.
It is $69 on the net.

Don't bother upgrading your system just to run a better server. Your upload speed is your bottleneck. No matter what you upload 4-5 people is the max you will be able to host with that upload cap.

Well shucks......I can increase my upload speed to 512K would this be enough? Will my wife let me spend the extra money???

With 512K upload you could probably be able to host 8 people.

Anybody want to by a slightly used 386-40mhz with 4 meg of memory
