To salvage an item do I just shift+r on it and select salvage? I tried to salvage my old helm last night and after a minute it said that I could not obtain any useful materials from this item and it disappeared. the Durability was shot though. Did that have something to do with it

So I should give all my salvage weapons to Whocares and my salvage armor to DE?

I'll give it a shot. Since my crafting is only at 300 I may not be able to
do anything with higher class weapons.

Uhm....although salvaging can be done by anyone at anytime (no forge needed), the results are directly related to your metalworking skill. So someone with very little metalworking will get nothing from a piece of armor worth a fair amount gold.

My Armorcrafter has 1100+ Metalworking. Please see me (or someone with high metalworking) to salvage stuff. :)
