I am thinking of buying an mp3 player to listen to while I work. What is a good software (free?) to convert my cd's to mp3 so I can download them to a SD memory card?

Which one? I've been looking at them, and liked the Sony models with 45 second skip protect, but otherwise, I just want a plain-jane, cd/mp3 player that will last. Sony radios have shown that they can take several silly drops and still play on, so I'm leaning toward them.
