View Full Version : Making movies of SS?
I just got done watching the Gummibear movies. Very cool! :wootrock:
I was wondering if this can be done in SS? Anyone know if there is software that can capture a demo while it is being played and convert it into a movie format such as DivX?

it can be done. what the gummis did wasn't anything specific to UT.
Not to say it was easy, but a matter of using capture software,
editing the sequences, possibly from multiple viewpoints, and putting it
together to music (optional). Not to say that is easy to do. There is
also the relevancy. Just a random session isn't likely to be as interesting
as, say a final competition, or a big time 1v1.

I have all the editing software. I just need to get the demos into some sort of video format 1st. After searching around and reading replies in the Gummi movie thread it sounds like FRAPS is the way to go.
I'm thinking about putting together some highlights. Nothing big. Funny stuff happens all the time in SS. :thumbs:

Espically to music and sound affects. Like when DD comes in, you can have someone screaming or something. LOL.

FRAPS is fantastic. Use VirtualDub to edit all your video clips.

I'm more used to Ulead VideoStudio software. And I think it gives me more flexibility adding music and transition effects, etc.

Yea but i think he wont be able to make a movie similar to S1imple .... thats just too much work ! Puting the sequences together and adding music is the easiest part. But a good intro , thats hard IMHO ;)

Yeh you're right. But you can't really expect much from a Serious Sam movie made by a hobby director anyway...

mhh, have to watch the two q3 movies. i only know the "badge" movies from q3

I've never tried virtualdub to edit the clips. In fact all I used that for was to compress the audio once it was all rendered and stuff. I just threw everything in Adobe Premeire and then snipped the clips up in there.. Premeire makes it real simple (a little razorblade tool). I'm guessin' though that Ulead is prolly sorta similar but I've never messed with anything but Premeire and a little bit of After Effects (which is very very cool also btw - It looked to me that the intro in s1mple was prolly done in AE)
here's a real quick rundown of what I did
-played UT and recorded demos
-played the demos back and grabbed the hot clips using Fraps
-imported the clips into adobe premiere
-imported music into adobe premiere
-trimmed it all up nice and sexy
-rendered everything and saved it as an avi file
-opened that avi file in virtualdub and compressed the audio
That's *basically* all you have to do. Of course if it was really that easy my movie wouldn't have taken me a few days to complete.
Once you get the hang of the *basics* that I've jsut explained then you can move onto more challenging stuff like using cooler transistions/effects/etc and making some sweet effects with other programs (like AE) and then importing them into your final movie as well

Yeh you're right. But you can't really expect much from a Serious Sam movie made by a hobby director anyway...
