I reformatted my other computer, I don't have the router CD, so I have no idea how to set up an internet connection on it. It's running Windows 98 SE. If you can help me or like type me a list then I will have ur babies.

What kind of router? Most companies have a quick setup guide on their websites.

Yeah I found that before you posted but man I hate Windows 98, I think i'm just gunnu reformat and magically get a XP cd ;o

Make a network disk from XP and insert it to that evil 98 system.

you shouldn't have to do anything aside from installing the network card on your computer. the router will keep its settings and connections. installing a network card and tcpip (default) should be all the computer needs.

Not for 98, it doesn't recognize internet connections like XP does.

sure it does. it may not install the protocols by default, but tcpip can easily be added, and dhcp is the default...

Well tcpip is what is going to make it work, so no it doesn't. You have to change or add the settings. Sniper, if you can get XP on that system that would be the way to go.

:hmmm: With my router, to get internet, I have to connect it directly to the modem, and register it with the I-Net company, and then after that is working, I can plug my router in and everything works fine.

putting tcpip on 98 is easy, much easier than installing xp.

The network setup wizard from WinXP will work if you have access to it. (Like Slice mentioned) I may be able to get you a copy. I found this site they may help if you try to do it manualy. Its really not that hard as Jimminator said but if you never done it before :bandhead:

jim is right regarding dhcp being default. it also installs tcp-ip by default. once the network card drivers are installed and system has rebooted, ckick on internet explorer and go through the setup wizard. once thats done if you put the address 192.168.1.1 into the address spot, it should take you into your linksys asking for a username and password. if you have never changed the user name or password (most people don't which leaves there network hackable) it should be...

username=admin
password=admin

that should get you into the router.

now if you just want to get back on the internet without any changes to your router, then just make sure your network card drivers are installed and you should be ready to go. :thumbs:
