View Full Version : Forum Maintenance Scheduled for 10-31

Just wanted to let you guys know we will be doing some maintenance on Thursday evening. Basically I am going to completely rip down the boards, install a completely clean version of the latest phpBB, and install the file attachment mod ONLY.

If everything is running smoothly, we will slowly add in mods one by one to make sure they don't cause any problems. Also, we are going to only use official mods from now on. I think some of the slowdowns we have been seeing are from mods that haven't been labeled "official".

If things move smoothly, you will see some very nice things put in. As always, after I make this change, I will post a thread for problems only.

Couldn't have picked a better day to do it, then Halloween!! About what time Sal?? Are posts going to be lost? Need any help, hollar, I will hand out the candy for ya :D if I don't eat it all first 8)

SAL, do you have an estimated time when the forums will be taken down? And an even harder question - how long do you anticipate it taking? Never mind the last question. How long will it REALLY take? :D

BTW, where do you work Grimmy? Dayton is a big GM town. Did you say you worked in an auto plant?

I work at a manufacturing place. They are a stamping facility. We stamp out a lot of parts for GM, Ford, soon some Nissian. We make all sorts of parts for automoblies. Hate Fords!! lol but that is our biggest jobs we have at the moment. Hope that helps ya out Sirc!

The boards will not be down for long at all. I will be installing the "clean" board in a different directory, and then simply renaming the folders so the new one shows up. The longest part will be copying the attachments from the old one to the new one and that shouldn't take more than a few minutes.

As long as the performance is the same or better, the new clean boards will stay. It will make things much easier to figure out when it breaks.

I'll try to do it between 5-6est, but like I said, you will see very little downtime.

Seems to be the same here, no probs here, just at work on the slow ass canada connection!
