what is this? I am running windows xp pro and hve never seen this before. I dont know how it got there. I have dsl so no need for any dialing. How do I get rid of it?

Don't worry about it. Those are advanced settings for networking. You do not need to mess with them and they do no harm or take up resources.

fred, they are just programs and settings available in windows.
when not needed, they don't do anything or take up any
resources. getting 'rid' of them would involve deleting some .dll
files in your windows directory, probably not a good idea.

fred go into your bios and see if onboard cnr modem is enabled. disable it if it is :thumbs:

If you really want to be anal about it and disable it as a service you can do so by going to Start button/run/type msconfig in the box/click on services tab at the top/ scroll down to the telephony box and uncheck it/click apply/it will ask to restart say yes/once started up it will say you have chosen to use selective startup, click on do not show me this again then you're done. whew...
