MY CHRISTMAS EXPERIENCE

Today was a special day for me as I volunteered to play Santa for the carpenters union local 45. My cousin is one of the delegates for the union and him and a bunch of us took a collection for the sick children at St’ Mary’s hospital for children. A bunch of the guys got together the day before to go and buy the toys these children would receive. I was quite nervous but I felt this was going to be nice for these kids. I can tell you, I didn’t know what to expect but when the first group of kids were brought down, I nearly could breathe as the big guy was choking up. I was saying to myself or asking, how am I going to be able to handle this being jolly and merry? My emotions were flying as I was sad but also mad, that god could let such beautiful children live in this sort of way. I paused for a minute or two as the other men with me were most likely feeling the same thing as I was and then finally went into action. The children were excited and I can hear them as they were entering the room yelling “Santa, Santa”. I started ho, ho, ho’ing and greeting one by one with gifts and hugs. The nurses were helping me with the wheelchairs and other handicaps that may have been in the way. The men were helping out handing gifts to the children and smiling of the Christmas joy and love was filled in their hearts. Their were dolls, and race cars, toys of all kind for the kids to play with and everyone of the crew were putting things together for the children and filling the toys with batteries. It was going so well and although sad for the children, I was happy that I know that this group of men put such a wonderful thing together and make these beautiful children smile with joy.

After all gifts were handed out and I nearly dying from heat exhaustion, we went to another floor where I could visit those that were not able to come down. There lied a young child who did not move for days while on a respirator. I again was choking up and walked up to the crib/bed and whispered merry Christmas. At this point she moved slightly and looked at me as the nurses all scream “she moved” “she moved” I looked down at her and her eyes were facing the white beard and hair. I whispered to her to get better soon and moved on to some other children.

With this, I will share some of the pictures of today’s event. I will also leave some thoughts that were going through my head all day.

I'm impressed. Nice job. I'm not sure who was blessed more...the kids or Biggd.

I agree that it's hard to understand why God would let children be in that state. The only answer that gives me peace is that God knows what is best for each of us and has a sovreign plan. Some of those children may have been spared from a worse situation (I can't imagine what).

The point is that you did what you could to help make the day special for them. Quite touching.
