This is what caused my last crash, and ended up having to reformat. I didn't do a low level format (honestly not even sure I did format). I know I deleted the partition and created a new one and reinstalled XP.

Here is the link that the error gives me. The error just says that there was a serious error, send the report to MS and this page opens.

If I have to, I will do a low level format and start over from uber scratch again. Everything has been find for 2 days, now this again.

What should I do? :WTF:

I did what MS suggested, and turned the slider to none, rebooted and not this pops up. :bandhead:

Have you tried swapping video cards? Or at the very least, removing your ATI drivers and reinstalling them?

I had that happen too, a while ago, try formatting again.

Having to reformat, because of a video card! That sucks!! :bandhead:

Does ATI's web site have any information about this? :hmmm:

Good luck Grim. :)

Don't have any other vid cards. Yes I have uninstalled the drivers, and tried reinstalling them. Something happened the first time that I did it and I ended up having to reformat. I will no do that again, everything if running and starting to get what I had on it, back on it.

I might have it fixed. I pulled the card out and cleaned the brass or gold connections with rubbing alcohol (millerlite, hey, they taste the same, inside joke) and cleaned em up with an eraser. I put the card back in, took it out, and back in, and cranked my accleration back up, and so far it went away. Although I haven't had my rig fired up yet today, had a class to goto this morning. Will see if it returns tonight when I get home.

 :rolf1: GOOD ONE! but hell no! I want a card that performs outside of benchmarks, not just have drivers that give you good 3DMark scores. :P

Ok do a fps in UT2003 or in any other game and I will do the same with my FX 5900, then we will see who is gonna cry. :P Oh and my drivers are STABLE. :D Don't forget I had an ATI 9700 pro and I sold it to BiggD. I was having similiar problems with it that you are having right now.

:hmmm: Year old card vs. 5900. How about the 9800XT vs. 5900. :P

And the problem with pretty much my fault, smoke film on the contacts. Nothing a cleaning wouldn't fix. :D

I have the 9700 Pro and have had ZERO problems with it.
Grimmy may I suggest that you install the drivers that came with the card and upgrade from there.

I did. I had the problem with the drivers that came on the CD when I bought the card. Even upgrading them to 3.10, the prob was still there. Just cleaned the card (heatsink dust bunnies, rest was clean) and the contacts and reseated the card and haven't had a problem since.

I still haven't seen anyone beat my 2003 3d Mark scores with their 9800XT here.

I like ATI's numbers but Nvidia seems to be much more stable and problem free. I've owned both types of cards and that's what I've come to think. Either company still has me as a customer on whoever makes the most efficent product for my money. Oh wait.....this isn't anthor ATI Vs. Nvidia thread...... :shifty:

i had that message once with GeForce or something like it, then i couldnt start PC, there was fatal errors with display drivers. I think thats faut in registry. Some string is missed or drivers reg is not completed succefully. If you installed newest drivers for video card, maybe try ones from CD what came with your video card
