I've had trouble getting to the master server as well, I hope they clear it up. Can't find buddies without it! Fortunately, several found me, and we had some good rounds.

Dude, you might have to start from scratch.
Print out your favorites, and if you have too, write down your settings for the game. Sounds like you have more issues that are going to be too tough to track down.

Have you tried doing a trace route to see if you're getting any dropped packets?

How exactly is that done?
I called the cable company and they said my connection and modem were fine ( I've heard that before and it was B.S.) so I assumed they pinged my modem.
I also reset my modem and by-passed my router.
I actually played one complete game last night, but tonight's action will be the test.

Start>run>type in 'cmd'
When the dos prompt comes up, type tracert (IP address, or domain name)
i.e.
tracert www.microsoft.com
This will show if packets are being dropped.
If you do this, take a print screen and post it if there is something you have a question about.

You might also try doing a traceroute to the {DS} server
tracert 66.208.105.177
Try it at peak times like around 8pm eastern. That's when mine goes all to hell.

If your tech support is like ours this is how it will go.
Hmmmm.....well let's see....(flipping pages)....oh yes...
1. Turn of your computer....and now reboot your modem.
2. Turn your computer back on...
3. Run another trace route....still doing it??? Let me get you someone else.
someone else.
1. Run a traceroute and email it to me.
2. waiting for email to go through all the lost packets.
3. Hmmmm....that doesn't look good.
4. I'll have someone look at this and get back to you

your traceroute is wrong, your router must be blocking icmp packets,
because if you were dead past the router, you would not have dns,
ie: your computer would not be able to get the ip address of microsoft.
so stuff is going out and coming in, but the icmp packets that
traceroute uses are being filtered out...

I get home, fire up the game and whipe up the Houston server :hmmm: then I get a call from my ISP tech no-support. Turns out that there are 2 problems, 1 is in the line in my hood, the other is this new virus infected so many people in our area, that it's wreaking havok with their harware  but they expect the virus to be done by 2-12-2004 :WTF:

The line thing could take a while.....they would have to spend money to fix that one
The virus thingy............why oh why are people so stupid that they open files in their email that they know nothing about. We should find out who they are and send them this message.
Dear sir or madam. We have noticed that your emails are leaving your computer a little slower than they should. The problem seems to be that your CPU is not getting enough flow of electricity. This can be fixed easily.
Pick a day with low humidity and follow these steps.
Step 1. open up your case and find the CPU, it will be a square chip with a heat sink and fan on it.
Step 2. Shuffle your sock feet on carpet while rubbing your hair with a fleece jacket for around 2 minutes.
Step 3. Touch your CPU...this should increase the voltage to it.
Step 4. Do not...I repeat, do not... ever buy a computer again.

I didn't figure it was your modem.
First things first....ISP's are the most arrogant, unhelpful, sh|tbags in the world. They know they have you by the short hairs, and they don't give a ****. The only time you get any respect/response from an ISP is if you have a business agreement with them, for a dedicated line of some type. You should hear me talk to them when I have problems....hell, one time my ISP was port sniffing my PC, so I called them and gave them a ear full of sh|t...they were like...uh, oh...umm...yeah...uh...I remember screaming into the phone.."Get outta my ****in' pc!" LOL...
jerks...
