my sys specs:

900Mhz Celeron processor
256MB of RAM
GeForce 2 MX400 Video card
integrated sound card
fast HDDs

i want to buy 256MB RAM today. i need to know first. will that make any changes to better and faster performance of my PC to these slow sys specs? i am unsure

ohhhhhh yeah, it will help a lot.... although I would probably want to upgrade that geforce also...

Depending on the cost of the ram, I would say a video card would be a wiser choice.

I'm not sure what the costs are in Latvia, but in the US, you can get a G- Force 5200 card for about $65 and that would boost your machine far more than Ram.

What OS are you using?? I seriously doubt you'll notice any big gaming difference because that system has so many placed it could bottleneck the upgrade. I doubt with that CPU and video card, that doubling that ram would give you a noticable spike in gaming performance, maybe the maps will load quicker but beyond that, I'm not sold. I had a similar system and didn't notice a huge difference.

also think about the future, if you're going to upgrade the PC within a year, and you have pc-100 or 133 ram, you probably will use DDR in the next system and the money you would spend now will be gone.

Take your processor and BURN IT. get a new mobo, cpu, mem and you'll be kicking lol

hell man, you can still get stuff shipped to you right?
lots of companies will ship overseas.
doesn't make sense to pay the huge prices.

more ram will help, but still limited to the speed of your proc.

Then just need some ram. Newegg has some Crucial 512 sticks for around $80, get 2. $ 169.99 for mobo n proc, + whatever you get for memory. Then you'd just need a vid card. $181 for an ATI 9600XT 128M card.

don't bother buying ram because the sdram is very expensive and pretty much a bad investment considering the new platforms are using ddr. regarding the celeron, donate it to the church  .

i agree with the others that buying a new video card will show the most improvement. not only that, you will be able to move the video card over to new system in the future. the celeron 900 mhz is equiv to like a 600mhz p3. celron is good for nothing and wouldnt even advise it for office apps.

well, all good guys, but i think hybrid has a limited budget. not
as limited as AIs but still limited. and with no CC available,
that prolly rules out mail order. and apparently cheap junk here is very
expensive to buy there. i feel for you man....

The cheapest way to make your computer faster is to overclock it. If your motherboard have that option, you should change clock form 66 Mhz to 75 Mhz and you will not need any extra cooling (that means, no extra costs). Performances will be improved because agp clock will go on 75 Mhz too. You can gain 5 or 6 fps.

There's a hell of a lot more to overclocking than that, and even overclocking that system won't make a difference in today's games. If you overclock you have to make sure your motherboard, memory, processor, heatsink/fan, and power supply can all handle it. If you make a mistake and kill a component, you're SOL because your warranty is now voided. Don't bother overclocking that machine.

My 2 cents, memory upgrades are always the cheapest performance gain possible within certain limitations. The limitations depend on what OS your running. If you're running Windows 95, 98, or ME, you are already maxed out. These OS's top out at 128meg. If you're running Windows 2000 or XP, then I like 512meg. The upgrade you are looking at will give you a performance boost. Will it be great enough to actually notice during game play? Possibly not.

If you are budget crunched and can't afford the upgrades others have mentioned, then I would say go ahead and get the memory. If you can wait a while and increase your budget, then I would say first go for Graphic card, next new MB and CPU.

One thing I can say for sure, if you go for new MB, you will have to get new memory and I would start at 512meg.

jesus!!!! RAM are soooo expensive for now!

i bought new video card GeForce 4 MX440 with AGP8x

and cheaper than 256 MB of RAM

actually for 40$ or less
