what is the best cooler for a AMD 2400?

is the Thermaltake extreme volcano 12 better or the coolmaster jet 7

I think the ThermalRight (http://www.thermalright.com) ones are rated even higher than those, but either should do a fine job. AMDMB.com (http://www.amdmb.com/) links to reviews all over, and the Thermalrights always fare pretty well.

the new coolers that come with the chip are pretty good considering amd has changed the design of both core chip and the fan/heatsink. unless you are drastically overclocking, i wouldnt bother.

a nice cooling system to have is to make sure you have 1 fane lower bottom of front of case pulling air in and 1 fan toward the middle rear of case. if your power supply has a fan to exhuast heat then the fan in middle does not have to be that powerfull. heat rises so if power supply does not have exhuast then i suggest getting a very powerful fan for the rear of case. do not be one that has several fans in case which can just cause a tornado effect of heat blowing inside case. this would defeat its purpose.

Keep an eye on the DBs for whatever you pick. My old Volcano 6cu+ sounded like a vacuum cleaner but my Volcano 10 is great.

Thats very true, I recently built a system for my uncle with a 2400 Athlon XP and I was real impressed at the stock heat sink and fan they were kinda big and pretty quite. My 2100 didnt come with something nearly as good but yeah, like Big said, unless your overclocking that stock fan and heatsink should suffice and I definatly don't think you need a Volcano 12 for a 2400 Athlon I have a Volcano 7 for my 2100 and its done the job great.

I got a retail version so I didnt get a fan and heat sink. Yea, I wanna OC it a little bit. I have heard people getting 2.5ghz out of the 2400 but i would be happy with 2.2ghz

then take a look at

I think that is the best product...

hey, thanks jim! I found out that the max DIE temp is 85c/185f for the AMD 2400. that is good to know.
