Spam

As I'm sure some of you have noticed, spam has started to become a real problem lately here at GM. We have started to lose members, and alot of regulars have stopped visiting because of the useless garbage that has filled many of the forums here. Even I don't read OT anymore because once I see certain members' names in a thread, I know there is no useful information in it.

This is a reminder that spam is ONLY allowed in OT and clan forums (if the clan permits spam). Spam is not allowed in any of the gaming, hardware, or software sections. We will start issuing verbal warnings for violators over the next few days, and then we will begin issuing forum warnings if continued which will result in suspended posting priveleges for X amount of hours. If these are repeatedly ignored, accounts will come under review by the council. Clans, if you don't want spam in your forums please post a pinned thread explaining it. We will then enforce the no-spam rule for your clan as well. Please note that even though spam is OK in Off Topic for now, if this policy gets abused we will enforce no spam in OT also and only allow it in clan forums.

We have always allowed spam as the freedom to do so was one of the reasons we started, but to ensure GM's future, it has to be controlled. Things have gotten out of hand and I rather see the spammers leave than our regulars. There are some new games coming in the next few months, which means new clans. If this goes uncontrolled now, it will only multiply until it completely overtakes GM.

Some of you may be wondering what constitues as spam. It's pretty much common sense. Posts with absolutely no relevance to the main topic are considered spam. This includes multiple posts in a row (use the edit button). If it has nothing to do with the thread, than don't post it.

Mods, please keep an eye on the forums you moderate. Feel free to give verbal warnings and if that doesn't work, contact an admin. Also contact us if you have a question if a post is spam or not. Mods of forums will also be reviewed in the next few days as we need active members to be mods.

I know, it&#39;s like you tell them not to spam and then they start spamming in a no-spam thread. I don&#39;t like spam as food and I especially hate it on a forumboard. If I were you, I would not just have them banned if they ignore warnings to stop, but also take down any spam posts. If they are not on topic at all, then they don&#39;t belong on the topic at all.
