Are you an American? She will have to serve time in jail, what would be justice in your eyes? The stupid thing is she was a billionaire and she has to serve time for a mere $250,000 transaction.

How is Germany efficient? Many EU member states are running on the same interest rates? Thats totally insane. Also, Germanys unemployment is huge. Its what? Around 10 Million? It took 6.5 Million to get Hitler into the Chancellor position.

Our justice system here in America is the best that it can be based on our Constitution. Most of our justice system has to do with "Rights", where in, it seems that the criminals have more rights than the victims, but that is only when your being charged with a crime that was passed by lawmakers. It's not a flawless system, but it is the best we have.

If someone doesn't like the country they live in, namely, The United States, then they can.....

a) get involved in politics and do something about it, or

b) leave!

Isn't freedom great????

Why?
I was born in Russia and lived there for 9 years. prolly by now i would be hating it, the country is very poor, and there are alot more things to do in America as far as i know. So i think that this is a great country, the only reason i would go back to Russia is to visit my relatives that are still there.

For all those who dont know who Martha Stewart is.......Martha stewart is an extremely wealthy woman here in the US. She was praised upon by many women, homemakers, etc for decorating style and such. She had a magazine called "Living" which had everything from easy house decorating projects to color schemes, recipies and more. I know lots of people used her decorating for the holidays tips because she did really have some really cool ideas. She also had her own television show and line of merchandise. (bedding and other houseware items) Because of her sucess she became very wealthy and wealth turns to greed. (that's why I'm content being middle class) She was screwing around with the stock market and got caught  The woman was at the top of her game and she blew it.

Speak for yourself, Slice... I think it's high time cheating rich people had to serve time just like anyone else who may get busted for insider information or other SEC violations...! Just because she's rich, she should not have to go to jail????

From CNN: Stewart was found guilty of one count of conspiracy, two counts of making false statements and one count of obstruction of agency proceedings. The eight women and four men on the jury returned their verdict on the third day of deliberations.

They say it's likely she'll only get 18 months jailtime anyhow, seems like a slap on the hands to me... Sure the 3,928 shares of stock she dumped were only worth $228,000, but why should she have been able to cut her losses with the stock over the other shareholders' who weren't able to benefit from her inside information... BTW, in addition to the potential jailtime, she has to pay a $250,000 fine... A teeny tiny drop in Martha's big a$$ bucket o' money if you ask me...

I will say this. Cheating goes on all the time, by all levels and incomes of society. Every once in a while the government likes to lay the smack down on a rich white person to show that they still "care". Her problem was making it so damn easy for them because she was so blatantly obvious about it. A jury of monkeys would have found her guilty. All the money in the world can't buy you smarts...

:bandhead: sry slice...

Just that I'm speaking from personal experiences that's all and I guess I'm just a little bias. My granparents came here from Italy very young with barely a dime and became extremely wealthy working and saving here in the US. They worked and saved their entire lives still living very poorly. I remember some bath towels with holes in them, my granparents driving old used cars and worn furniture, never anything ever being replaced. They refused and never spent a dime. When the sad day that my grandparents died came, that's when my family when down the drain. The greed of the wealth brought the worst out in the adults that were around me. Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been spent in lawyer fees fighting over such a material thing. (disgusting) It has been over ten years now and the feud is still going on between people and court papers are still being passed to one another. My father and his twin are not speaking, family get togethers are non existant and have been since I was a child and I'm just speaking from personal hardship. I choose to distance myslelf from that situation and I dont care if I ever get a drop of that money. I think of my granparents and feel sad at all those years of such great accomplishment, for it's intention to be wasted.

I see the same things happening under the camera's of publicity and I guess it's hard not to generalize. I didnt mean to steriotype and I know that doesn't pertain to all who are well off. That would be like saying all Italians are great cooks where I cant even make mac and cheese :P

That's not quite the point, PJ... The point is that people aren't supposed to sell their stocks based on info only they have until the info is made public so everyone else who has the same stock has the same opportunity to dump their stock based on the same info... :D
