with my fUNc pad I will be adding one of these fan controllers. I have the stock one that came in my thermaltake Xaser III case but it has no back light. I found it at Directron for $25. It looks sweet

Looks really nice and at $25 looks to be a good deal Fred. I believe Grimmy has the same case as you and the lack of backlighting was also his main complaint.

is it for car?

It's used to control the fan speeds on the fans in his computer.
BTW This is the computer hardware section. I would have moved the thread if it was for a car. :D

Yup I have that case, and the new ones have a backlite lcd screen that looks pretty kewl. They also have different things you can put on the front of the case, and I think they just the HDD working lights to switch some things on the front. Wish I could get the new stuff and put in my case, but I think in order to still have my temp probe that is under my proc, I'd have to remove the old one and put the new one in (meaning remove the proc and such  )
As for the fan controller that came with my case, well  I had it all hooked up and I couldn't get it to work, or if it did, I couldn't tell the difference in speed. So I said screw it, just hooked em up to the PS directly and let em run wide open. Noisey, but hey, that is what 5.1 surround sound is for :jammin:
Prices for the case have come way down too. I paid nearly $200 smackers for mine, and I believe it's under $150 now. Still worth it IMO, no screws and everything can be removed or added in a snap. They just need to work on that fan controller.

i really never went for that gimmick stuff adjusting the fans and all. i always did like the led light though. i just never felt safe adjusting any voltage on any part attached to the motherboard and power supply. i feel it can give some sort of power surge effect to system. what i mean is something that can start reducing and producing power is a danger to ones expensive unit. i think they look nice but as far as it not having a seperate plug that actualy plugs in to a seperate wall socket just makes me nervous.

I had the stock fan controller all hooked up to the stock fans and never could tell a difference either. But I replaced my fans with ones that flow alot more air and the fan controller comes in very handy. Now I can tell a big difference in noise. For 80% of the time I have the fans turned way down. But when i am gaming I turn them up to keep things cool.
The super flower should be here this afternoon. Via UPS. I'll let you know how I like it.
I am adding a Jet 7 heat sink and fan to my proc so I dont mind repacing the thermal sensor under it. Plus the super flower has 4 thermal sensors to put where ever you want. The stock thermaltake one only has one.
I'm gunna lap the jet 7 and use artic silver 5 on it, plus the super flower connected to 7 case fans (2 front, 2 side, 2 rear, 1 top) It should cool the AMD 2400 real nice.

isnt the jet pre lapped? be carefull with the xp cores because they are abit fragile and if you are a little off it will mess you up.

In Maximum PC a couple of years ago I saw a PC inside of a car. It was a sweet set up. I wish I had the pic.
I got the super flower today!!!!! It came while I was at work. I got home and opened it but i wont have time to install it untill tomarrow. So far it it sweet!!!!
got 4 colored face plates, and 2 different clear ones to go over the colored ones. They have either white or black writing on them. I quickly plugged it into my ps and it lights up great. the knobs on it are nice firm and smooth. knobs are back lit blue and the screen is 7 colors or you can have them rotate on there own every 3 seconds. It has 4 temp sensors and a fan rpm sensor for all 4 fans. Adjustable alarms for the 4 sensors and the fan rpms. I cant belive it was only $25!
I'll put it in tomarrow and let you all know what I think.

I got the Jet 7 with the super flower. I looked at it and by no means is it pre-laped. It is nice but no where near laped. I bet it would do fine just as it is but I am gunna lap it anyway. I wish that I could put it on and run some tests then lap it and see how it made a difference. But I'm not going to. Once I get the super flower in I'll work on lapping the copper base of the Jet 7. Then add artic silver 5

What fans did you use to replace the stock ones? I did some research and well I might have misslooked or something, but I believe the stock fans pull like 75 CFM and well I thought that was a lot, but if I could get more, I would. Like to move a lot of air through my rig, for it gets warm in here during the summer. Just have to move it on the floor so it doesn't get so smoke yucky

Grimmy, no way do the stock thermaltake fans flow 75 cfm. Maybe all 7 together flow 75 cfm! They are sleve bearing and slow. I replaced the 2 side and one front with these coolmax (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=35-130-007&depa=1) fans. They flow 41.5 cfm. Then the top got this Antec fan (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=35-129-007&depa=1) flowing 34 cfm. The rear and other front got this Antec (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=35-129-028&depa=1) fan allso flowing 34 cfm. Let me tell you, with faster , better flowing fans the fan contoller really comes into play.
I allso cut the blow hole on top out and expanded the grill holes. I have done tons to keep the air flow going in this case. Let me know if you wanna know more. :jammin:

here it is after I just "hit" it with some 400 grit to show the low and high spots. Notice how the outside got hit and the center area was not touched. Thats the cpu spot

Yep, it's pretty cool (no pun intended :oooo: ).
I got the same one you got about 1 or 2 months ago. It's in my new rig. I read your thread and thought, wow....I've never adjusted my fan speeds...and the PC sounds like a refridgerator...duh! Turned them down a hair, .......sounds alot better now.
One word of advice......I wouldn't hook it up to the CPU fan. I left mine hooked up to the mobo, just to be safe.:)

the Jet 7 has its own fan speed controller. I've kinda got the super flower in. I just need to run the wires. It is pro grade equipment for sure. here is a pic of the Jet 7

I would highly recomend it and the super flower. The jet 7 is real quiet turned all of the way down and it cools my xp2400 to 35c at idle and 40c at load. And thats OC'ed a little (2.13ghz)

I just played about 1/2 hour of SOF II and it never got above 36c. That is with all of the fans turned all of the way up.

Hey Fred, just noticed something. Does that fan have a built in heatsink? Can that fan be attacked to a slk-800 heatsink? :hmmm:
Fred Bear
03-17-2004, 08:54 PM
no you can take the fan off from the heat sink. The heat sink that comes with it is top notch though. I dont see why it couldnt be attached to a slk-800
