I find in my errorlog.txt after I crash with ToA.
(I don't crash with SI, I have a new videocard using driver version 56.64 (nvidia), I use a new network card, I have soundblaster driver version 3509.1.0.0 file version 5.12.01.2110, and I have no idea what else could cause this error :bawling: )

I have heard of network cards causing crashing to desktop problems. There is one card in particular that causes it a lot. can not remember which one. Also try your RAM 1 stick at a time. If you can not get your problem fixed just ahve Starvald log in both accounts on his computer for ML10 and just have you in the BG. Either that or send me your user name and password and I'll log you on with one of our computers.

You can also try older version of both sound and video drivers as well as updating DirectX.

Alt tab and restart DAOC- you need 1gig of memory though to run 2 instances without a ton of lag.

Better go ahead and do a little experimenting tonight so that you can see if it is stable with both accounts on 1 computer.

I can't tell you exactly what the problem is, but I can explain an access violation.

When a program starts, the OS allocates a block of memory for the program. In DAOC's case, this block is huge. The program is only allowed to access memory from this allocation block to protect programs from doing harmful things to your syytem (ie. modifying other programs). When a program attempts to access a location that is not in it's own allocation block, it causes an access violation and the program terminates.

Now what exactly causes this? A couple of things: Bad programming can be one. But I doubt this is the case since many people don't have this issue with camelot.

It is most likely hardware/driver/temperature related. I have found that my no-name brand of ram that I bought after last Summer causes my machine to have random reboots now that the temp is starting to heat up (it's been in the 80s here this week).

I updated some VIA chipset drivers so I guess that was drivers for my mobo, i am running it under win NT mode.
I even contacted the Mythic support and they told me to update my via drivers - which didn't help :(

What I also did today was running a adaware, and cleaning up my cookies and temp internet files. Now I don't crash every 10 seconds but still from time to time (6 hours of playtime, 2 crashes)

Changing videodrivers doesn't help, I tried 4 different versions and none helped.

I used to have a netgear networkcard and after the crashing got so bad i put another one in from my small computer, that didn't help too.

About changing sound drivers - it's creative and everytime I thouch it it gets messed up :wacko:

What i think is interesting is that only the ToA expansion is causing this problem, I don't crash when I play with SI....

Is there a way to find out which hardware/drivers is causing this problem? It's a little hard to get rid of this problem if so many possibilities are there :bawling:

Also it is interesting that everytime mythic updates the servers (with downtime and server restart) the problem is gone for about 2 weeks :dunno:

Update: Cleaned my ram sticks today (god they were really dirty) and played with open case all day - my computer isn't so hot inside anymore and - no crash :D

My computer was locked up hard yesterday when I got home. Turned out to be a layer of thick dust/dirt inbetween the thin aluminum fins of the heatsink and the attached fan. This was preventing heat from escaping the CPU. Fortunately, my PC just shutdown and I lost no hardware. :) Cleaning the heatsink off fixed it in no time (well.....no time after the CPU cooled down).

So my warning is to check your PC out everyone once in a while. Make sure your CPU fan is clean and there is good air movement inside your case.

I will get me an additional fan for my case on monday ;) My puter had about 132 F and i consider that a little too hot. Also he is running much more silent now and doesn't read on the hd like he is hammering something in.
