Best heatsink = ThermalRight SLK-800

$45 @ NewEgg

Haven't decided on the best fan yet. Some are too noisey.

What about Speaze (spelling) I thought that they made good fans? I don't have to worry as much as you Amd people though. :)

I don't know much about Speeze, But here is a review done by that same website LINK (http://www.tech-pc.co.uk/Fanner-1.php)

I don't know if this really helps, But something I just noticed on the ThermalRight SLK-800 is the way the air continues to flow thru the HSF and on to the proc. to aid cooling.

Most HSFs had a solid base that blocks the air.

Noise is not that much of a concern the more I think about it.
I want a high quality fast one
What is the norm speed for a fan?

That is a pretty fast one (3700 RPM) as 80mm fans go and was one of the fans they used in the review.
Most 80mm fans turn around 2000-2400 RPM.

Is that one of the ones with the high-pitched whine that they were talking about?

I normally get Sunon fans because they are quiet and reliable but I see Newegg doesn't have them :(

$100.00, and I do not need that yet,,,,, my next system will be water cooled, I have 6 fans on my case now, I only use 3 fans, but leave case open, water comes out cheaper and better in the long run..............

check the review,,,,, and newegg has it for $99.00 :)

Just to get off topic (sorta) for a minute, when I was swapping out my borked hard drive I took a look at my CPU fan/heatsink. LOL! The sucker was packed with dust.

No wonder I was getting lockups and crashes. I cleaned it out and so far haven't had any problems, even without having an external fan blowing into the case. Sweet. Much quieter now. :)

You know, when ya put the nozzle of a big-ass shopvac right up to the fan it makes it turm about 15,000 rpm and it sounds like a small jet engine. Cool. Stupid, but cool.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming....

You put a shop vac up to the fan.
LOL

Like a high pitched humming sound?

It sounded like one of those Oscar Meyer Weiner whistles that you blow into and makes the funny cartoon sound. Can't really describe it here. Knocked the crap right off of it though!

Update: Since I cleaned all of the crap out of my CPU heat sink and fan I have been able to run with the cover back on the case without any problems so far. Sweet.

Man, I forgot how quiet it runs. I can hear the sound of other people running now in SS. I don't know where they are, and it makes me paranoid as hell, but its knda cool.

A SHOP VAC??????.................Dang them must be some large dust bunnies you got there....
I can see it now...vrrrrooooommmmm...(large sucking sound inserted here).....OH SH**......there went my cpu...memory...etc.

I would like a quiter system also....I have 4 fans....1 in the power supply, 1 blowing air out the back....and 2 in the side blowing in. These 2 I robbed out of 2 old power supplies and attached to a modified side panel. works pretty good...I can keep the side on and the cpu temp never gets above 129deg F. Unfortunately I can't hear my kids sneaking up on me anymore.
