My dog had a little hissey today. Those white fluffy things are what's left of one of her stuffed animals.
You might have noticed that her hind leg looks a little wierd, she had surgery a month ago (on her knee).
Just thought I'd share a little insight into my somewhat boring life! :P

Thanks, she weighed in at 92lbs today. The male shepherd we had (before her) weighed in at 125lbs, he was a big boy!
Here's a picture of a picture, of him.......I have got to get a scanner!

BTW, you're doing quite well to have a shepherd that old.....ours lived to be 14.

LOL--yep the little white one is cute and sweet as all get out! He's clueless most of the time, lookin around saying "what? what? did I miss something?!" Dasher, the older (fat) rat terrier is my miracle dog. He fell out of the car at 60mph when he was 9 months old, was missing for 10 days, and I found him again through sheer will power. He's been through several surgeries and is a wonder to me even now. I find that I am forging a bond with the little white one (Little Boy) even though I though I wouldn't. He's a daddy's boy. James goes outside, and leaves him in the house, and he's a big squealer! Shows how exciting our life is! :P

Thanks for asking, the vet said it was fine. It's going to take 5 months for her to be back to normal. The muscle has to be built back up in her leg. :(

Well......one morning around 6am I walked out into our front yard.....mind you it's pitch black out.....anyway...she sees another dog.. and takes off like a rabbit....she was limping when I found her...I didn't think much of it...I figured she got a sprain, or maybe tore a muscle....so I went to work. I came home afterwork...my wife met me at the front door, crying her eyes out....Hell! I thought the dog limped out in front of a car and got ran over...LOL....What happened was, my wife came home from work, and our dog was still limping, so she took it to the vets.. and was told the dog would need surgery for a torn ligament. I didn't think it was that big of a deal....my wife on the other hand, took it pretty hard...go figure?
The first German Shepherd we had, ended up having knee surery three times! So I guess that's why I didn't think much about this one needing it.

No, our first dog had a funky bandage everytime he had surgery (on his knees). This time around, with this dog, the vet left the incision open (uh...without a bandage). It healed quite nicely.....she did look very funny though....she was shaved from her paw to her butt..LOL. :D

Dasher did ok with knee surgery, but the stupid vet had me keep putting a soft formed cast on to keep his movements "limited", I found out later. The hip surgery was left open, just shaved, bare-ass leg from knee to back--that was fun--I had to hold him up outside to do his business! The knee surgery was more traumatic because of the stupid "cast" that I had to keep putting on him! I got really tired...

How long has it been since the surgery?

It's been a month. This vet uses a surgical wire to help hold the leg/knee in place while it heals. The wire eventually deteriorates, leaving the dog with complete mobility.

I hope she becomes completely mobile again! I know how hard it is to wait and wonder if they will be the same again after surgery! How old is she! I'm thinking fairly young-- if so, it will only make it better for her recovery time. I understand your wife being so upset!
