I am getting ISDN lines installed next week. This will give me 128kps up and down. Now this is a fraction of what you DSL and cable people can average but it will be about 4 times faster on the upload from what I currently have :) BTW I will be paying through the nose to have this service, but I don't care I can't stand dial up for one second longer. :D

Make sure they are giving you both "B" channels, otherwise it's only 64K. I've got a good 3Com ISDN modem sitting around somewhere, if your interested.

Yes they are, both B channels banded. How much do you want for it? I am asuming it is external? :)

It is a 3ComImpact IQ ISDN Modem, external. It supports 230K modem to PC connect speed, which you will want for a 128K connection, instead of the normal serial 115K. I also have somewhere a hign speed serial card capable of supporting 230K.

Price: Make me an offer...
Shipping: If you want it, you'll pay shipping, Ok.

Now I'll have to search everywhere to see if I can find tha dang thing. Me and my big mouth...

It should. It connects to a serial port and looks like any other external modem. It does have some special software to configure the thing, but once it's installed, and the "A" channel connects, you use dial-up connection to call the ISP like you would for any other modem. I'll even bet that XP Pro would recognize it without any special drivers.

You don't need the high speed serial controller card, but may experiance overruns if you try to pump 128K into a 110K serial port.

I used ISDN for a while until I upgraded to cable. I had it set up to automatically dial when any PC on my home network tried to access the internet. I used normal ICS under Win 2000 Pro then.

What has your ISDN ISP told you? They should be your best source of information.

The card I have may not work for you. It is an old, ISA PnP high speed serial card. It supported up to 230K. It uses the 16750 Uart chip. As I said before, you can use your existing serial port. I think all motherboards still come with at least one serial port. However, fewer and fewer are coming with ISA slots.

Just curious, when did you order the ISDN line? If I remember right, it took GTE, now Verison, 6 weeks from order to connected.

I ordered it yesterday. They called me today with my CI id and my 2 numbers for the channels and made an appointment to connect the lines next week. :) Now, who is the best isp to use for ISDN? I want an unlimited 128k service. Earthlink offers 100 64k hours for $26 a month and $1 each hour over. I have seen some companies who offer unlimited for like $49. Do you know of any providers?

Behind You, was there a special Serial cable that it is supposed to have? I went to office Depot and bought a Belkin 25pin to 9pin modem serial cable. The book says that it came with one originally. I don't mind if you don't have it but I have been trying for 7 hours to figure this out. I have been changing irq's, pulling pci cards, changing com ports nothing seems to work. The modem works because I was able to configure it with the 3com software to my circuit. So it recognizes the switch type, which tells me that it isn't the modem.

That is the weird thing, it says I am connecting at 115k but only one B channel is light. I think I need to change something because it only downloads at about 8KB a sec? I can't use that enclosed card because no ISA slot on my Mother Board. I am going to see if they make a pci card for use with the 230k. But at least it works. :)
Ok, here's the deal. Each "B" channel is 64K. To get 128K, both "B" channels must be lit. This is controlled by your ISP. If only one "B" is lit, then you're only getting 64K. Better than dial-up, but half what it could be. Call your ISP to get both "B" channels.

The problem you may have with both "B"'s is that you will get what's called overruns. This is because you will be trying to pump 128K into a smaller 115K pipe. If I remember right, with overruns, you'll lose data.

Check the doc, I think there is a way to set the modem to run at 56K per "B" instead of 64K. This way, you could have both "B"'s and match the 115K port and no overruns and only slightly less than max.

Happy it's working.

At least you got it working somewhat Slice.
Let me know when you wanna do some testing with it.
You name the game.

Here is a preliminary ping test on latency to the Detroit server. I still am connecting at less then half of what this connection is capable of. So I guess that ping isn't too bad. I think once I work with the guy for my isp I will have a ping right around 200 or so. :) Now for some that probably sucks, but I can already tell from running around the map that it is going to be much better for me. I have not yet tested the Houston servers which used to ping better for me then Detroit. I'll keep ya posted. They may have to make an adjustment on my circuit (like crank up the signal) because of the distance to the CO it gets fed from. Anyhow it is still gonna be better then 400.

Hey Slice, trust me on this, all your isp has to do is update your userid to allow both channels. Maybe 20 seconds, tops. If you can get the one channel, the second is a logon configuration change. Now the bad news, they will probably want more money.

My pings tonight on all the servers are double what they usually are. You may be having the same problems.

Or you are screwing things up for everyone else. :P

Ya I spoke to them today (believe it or not on Thanksgiving) and he told me that he had already changed my account settings to allow 128k connection yesterday. We think it is a configuration on my side that I am overlooking possibly. I orginally signed up for 128k so it isn't going to cost anymore money. I just can't figure out why it won't connect. The modem trys to connect the second channel but nothing happens?

Not really I am only able to run one channel and something is bottlenecking the bandwidth. There is definately a modem driver issue with XP also. Ugg, I think I have to buy a router to make it work with XP and also be able to take advantage of stac compression. Maybe by Monday.
