What brand/model? What kind of noise? Beeps? Have you unpluged the power for 30 seconds and plaugged back in? Does it have software? What kind of settings could he have messed with?

I have a Vigor2200e Draytek router
It always worked fine for me
I dont have any software installed for it
I have a Alcatel modem
The sound is like something is shaking really fast

hmm, have you tried to reconfigure it?? Ours we just got to http://192.168.0.1 and that will bring up the configuration of the router, and there is a wizard that does everything for us. Maybe that will help.

On my linksys if you really want to do a hard reset you do this.
unplug it....push and hold the reset button.......count to 10....while still holding the reset buton in, plug the power cord back in, and count to 10....then you can release the reset button....
I have never heard it make a noise though...that would be a scary thing.

Same here. I'm just guessing here, but it sounds like something has gone wrong with the internal electronics, Not anything to do with the setup settings, so I don't think it's anything your dad could have done. I'd be looking to see about getting it replaced or fixed if resetting it doesn't fix it.
