Ok here is the problem. I want to play Space Quest 4 and some other VERY OLD sierra games. However each time I try to go in I get a CPU error.. simply because my computer is WAY too powerful for this ****ty game.
NOW I have tried moslo but that does not let me get into the game. Has anyone successfully played an older game on a new machine?
I don't want to have to go out and find an old 486 to play these games on. :(
If you are using XP, doesn't it have a compatibilty mode or something?

On XP, the oldest game I got to work was Warcraft II. Dune2 and Worms1 just screw up the computer

Maybe you could set it up to dual boot with an older OS.

Can you dual boot with Win 3.1? lol

No. because 3.1 does not have the video card drivers needed to support current video cards. Same thing with sound and mobo drivers too. I would think that 95 or 98 is the oldest that would work now.

Thought so. Haha how funny would that be if you could dual boot with 3.1? Go with 98SE. That has the most compatibility.
On XP Dune2 worked till I formated. The sound wasnt working particullay well though. Now that I reinstalled XP blah, it just makes the comp go to 100% and slows everything down and i have to end task it.

ARE YOU USING A P4? CL TO SEE IF GAME HAS L2 PROBLEMS WITH THE PROGRAM ITSELF. YOU MAY WANT TO TRY AN EMULATOR INSTEAD OF GOING THROUGH AN OS INSTALL.

In all likelihood, you CAN get win 3.x running. (3.11 would be the one to try since it has networking support). 640x480x4bit should work on any card. Higher color depths and resolutions would probably run on a lot of modern cards since many of them are still VESA compliant for SVGA. As for sound, many newer cards still have dos drivers and/or can behave like an original sound blaster, SBPro, SBPro2, SB AWE, or SB PCI. I don't know if an older version of DOS would run on a newer motherboard, though. You best bet would be to get windows 98. I generally don't recommend SE because it's slower and more crash prone but you'll probably be runnign a CPU throttler anyway so any win9x should be fine. That said, there are several games that still won't work (such as the Crusader games from Origin and many of the later LucasArts SCUMM games). What I'm thinking about doing is just getting an old pentium 200(ish) system and dos 6.22 and playing the classics on that. :)

Thanks guys..
Here are my stats..
I am running Windows XP on a Pentium 3 800 mhz system. Unfortunately XP has no "boot in dos mode" and moslo does not do the trick cause I cannot even get into the game. I get some crazy error about how the CPU does not know how to run this ****. Some crazy Exception error.
Maybe I should just bust out the old 286 from the basement. HA
