Just to add a different opinion, money no object, try Intel Desktop Board D845GERG2 and that new Pentium 4 3.06ghz processor. Yum, Yum...

I wish I knew, but money it a little tight right now. Shame on me, I spent it on a Home Theater System. :D :D :D

Intel motherboards aren't as flexible, i.e. overclocking, but are usually rock solid. They may not be the fastest, but they don't break either. Just depends on what you're looking for.

The review I saw matched this board to an Asus. Asus also makes good boards and should be a little more overclockable if that's your intent.

i would actually suggest not buying a processor that cost 700 dollars but will suggest almost the same as machine except i wouldnt even get the 2800 amd xp but maybe the 2600+ and nforce2 board. it is rock solid and has many feature to last you even the next group of cpu's. to spend an extra 100 dollars is just dumb as it will be out of date in three months and will not get that much performance difference for it. buy the best video card as it can be passed along in your next upgrade and put the extra money away for the next cyle of hardware. you will remain on top this way. in febuary or march the change will happend as the athlon64 comes out and it will be the mecca of cpu's. some games will also be written for 64bit and already a 1400 is beating a 2800. as for the p4 3.06 yes it is the fastest cpu to date but not by far nor is worth 700 dollars. everyone believs the hype about hyperthreading but don't as you will notice bugs in it with some hardware and programs. a program has to be written to use smp and the p4 trully is not an smp solution. if you are gung ho on spending cash go with a dual amd 2400 cpu as this will wipe the floor of all suggestions and still be cheaper than the one p4 3.06 processor. i know you said not to worry about price but i am not just giving you the best solution for price performance.

don't believe the hype of marketing. i test all these systems and run them. if you want hyperthreading than just get a xeon which has it enabled already from the start.

yuk 2.4 intel--actually anything above 1 ghz will do and be enough. its all done on the video cards today. make sure if you go intel you get the 533 fsb only. anything less is a waste of your money.

For 533 fsb you're back into the 2.6ghz+. And not as much is being done on the video as you might think. A lot more than before, but a speedy processor is always good.

Edit: also, he said money no object.

I stand corrected. Last time I go by memory. Look's like 2.26 GHz is smallest. Here's Intel's chart Link (http://www.intel.com/home/desktop/pentium4/index.htm).
