Okay, seeing as how you are all hardware Gods, I am asking for suggetions.

I know my way more or less around terminology, but I will not go into building anything. I know just enough to accept the fact that I would kill myself and/or black out something like 61% of the eastern seabord if I attempt to crack open a case. Lucky for me, I have a guy who built the rig I'm currently running. and I can take him a spec sheet and get something built.

Here is what I'm looking for:

Mid to upper level rig that could be built for under a grand, and is geared to gaming. Serious Sam specifically.
I am happy with a 60'ish gig hard drive.
I have no preference regarding P4 or AMD, as noone I know has been able to give me informed info to base an opinion on.
I have a monitor I can use, or I can find myself a nice one to upgrade to.
I know nothing about cooling, or what I should look for.
I figure I'd be happy with 512 megs of ram, though don't really know if I should look for a certain type. Might go ahead and bump up to a gig, but it seems like overkill. But.. it's cheap... hrmmm...
I'll need a new network card for my DSL. No idea if I'd need anything special in this regard.

So, please offer any and all suggestions on what I want built! Thanks.
