Can anybody suggest a high quality printer that has at least 2400x2400 dpi?

Search for Canon i320 on buy.com, $44 after rebate + free shipping.

You can get cartridges on megatoners.com for $2-$3 each black or color.

I've had a Canon and now a HP. The quality on the HP is excellent and the ink cartridges, though expensive, runs a lot longer.

Whatever you decide on, check the price for the replaciables, i.e. Ink Jet Cartridges, Laser Toner Cartiridges. Also, check on availablity of these items. Nothing is worst than needing to print something, running out of toner and not being able to get one on a Sunday afternoon because no one carries the damn thing. :(
