Well my computer locked up again (those of you that are familiar when I had these problems before), at the same temperature, again. Then XP sorta died or something and i opened up my comp since it was making noise, it was just a wire near my heatsink.

Anyways XP said I had recovered from a serious error. Im gonna come back to my power supply being suspect here. I have yet to test any games again. It has done this before, worked for a while, coupl eof lock ups happen, works for a while, couple lock ups. Also Serious Sam created illegal operation and after a restart it had to be fixed by ScanDisk.

Hey Slik that would really help. I've forgotten most of the troubles you had.
Are you saying you had a wire get into the fan and stop it or was it just rubbing on the blades?
We need to find out if there is a setting in your bios to shut down your system at a certain temp. to save the proc.

The wire was near the heatsink, i moved it and it seemed to clear the noise problem.

I have my power supply from my old comp... Yeah I got that epox one. The only thing i didnt get there is that gf4

The power supply is 300, but I dont really want to do all that stuff right as of now.

ok thanks. A while back with Nobody (if you remember) we changed my voltage from 1.70 to 1.65 (the lowest setting). It helped a lot. Has been working for long periods of time till it comes to a few lockups. I never understood that.

Hmm I recovered from another "serious error" today when warcraft3 crashed twice on a memory read error (i have 1gb memory i dont think that was the problem!) again temp at around 45C. Where are you Nobody?!

Didn't you just add some new memory?
If so, Pull it temp. and see if you can duplicate the error.

Also if you have multiple sticks are they all the same brand, speed, etc....? Sometimes, but not always diff. brands have compatibly problems with each other.

Yeah I did, it did this before though. Im pretty sure its not the memory. It just crashed not too long ago when I was playing Serious Sam FE.

2 out of 3 of my ram sticks are the same. One is different. They are all PC2100 DDR. I have 2 256s, one 512.

Slik check your memory with this program. You will need a floppy disk to install it to. You may have a bad mem address if it happens randomly. Memtest 386 is the name of the program.

No, There's no way to log/monitor what it's putting out while you are doing whatever it is that may be causing it to malfunction. At least I don't know of a way.

I use AMD. OK this second disk formatted, but this says Intel, I dont think it will work on my AMD.

Memtest86 is a stand alone program that cannot be executed under windows and must
be loaded from a floppy disk.

To install Memtest86:
- Extract the files from the zip archive
- Open the directory where the files were extracted and click on "install.bat".
- The install program will prompt you for the floppy drive and also prompt you to
insert a blank floppy.
- To run Memtest86 leave the floppy in the drive and reboot.

NOTE: After the boot floppy has been created you will not be able to read the floppy
from windows. This is normal.

When it crashes, he computer totally freezes, cant even get Windows Task Manager up (i use XP pro) nothing works. And from my speakers this high pitched noise comes and continues until i have to shutdown the computer with the button. I forget the name of it, but its a basic Logitech optical mouse. You know the blue one with the mouse buttons being gray?

Before I changed my comp voltage and formatted, it was happeneing everywhere. Windows, 3d games. Now it has happened in Serious Sam and Warcraft 3 and a couple times in Quake2 +3 (but widespread in time length).

Actually i have found this. When I dont try to be funny, thats when Im the funniest. When I do, sometimes I hit the mark, but then I tend to push it too much and lose the touch.
