Who here has installed it? Is it worth it or should I stick with 8.1? I've heard that the GForce4 cards don't support it anyway.

I have it too and I'm running a Gf2 MX card. Don't see a difference as Snip3r said.

I haven't installed it yet, but some of the guys in this thread did, with mixed results. Might want to check with them. I haven't installed it yet, as it doesn't really offer me anything too much. ATI has released drivers with 9.0 features utilized, so I could see it if I had one of those cards. I haven't checked many places yet for feedback on 9.0. If I were to do it, I'd definitely DL the whole thing and do it from the hard drive, as opposed to the 'web setup'.

Hmmm, look what I found on the MS Directx site:

Q.  Are there any known issues with regard to DirectX 9.0?

A.  Due to enhancements in the way DirectPlay functions, it is strongly recommended that all users who want to join or host multiplayer games upgrade to DirectX 9.0. A user with earlier versions of DirectX may have trouble joining or hosting games, or my see a significant performance reduction when playing with users who have 9.0 installed.

Now I'm really concerned! :o

It's Fanta orange (although they give you Cola). You get the picture.
I installed it and it still lags like hell on a server.

I haven't installed it yet either. I'm taking a "Wait & See" on this one.
So I understand, It really benefits the lastest cards that can use the new features it offers, Although MS "claims" it help all cards.

I installed it along with the new ATI drivers. No real difference, I think.

I'm going to run 3DMark, then install DirectX 9.0 and run it again, then update my nVidia drivers and run it again. I'll let you know what happens.

You know what is crazy about 3DMark is you can run the test 3 times in a row and get different numbers with out changing a damn thing!

Probably, but I'm going to play SS like this for a while though. It's really not that much of a difference, and maybe the graphics will look better. Who knows. :)

i installed the dx9 drivers and will not reccomend anyone doing it unless they have have a dx9 compliant card. i actually do not reccomend installing it regardless of card you have as there is no software that will utilize it and can only cause problems if you do install it.

oh yeah once you install it, thats it you can not uninstall it. there maybe programs out there to remove it but it trully screws your system up in the registry.

good luck

Good advice. I'd probably do it if I had a 9700, or another card that could utilize it best. Nvidia has their new driver set out there for 9.0, but I still don't see that it offers me much, with my GF4 4400.

That's an awesome score; what was your old card, and what did it get?
