View Full Version : Push in battle?

Well, this is a dilema of mine. I'm not sure which is more effective in a one on one battle. Is it better to push toward the other player while fighting or keep a distance? Does it just depend on the situation?? Opinions? Anyone?

It depends on the situation

I usually wait till my opponent shoots, then jump forward to finish him off

1 problem with that, if I miss, I'm dead,

you can also just strafe left and right and keep shooting him, without moving forward or backwords, always works fine,
dont jump too much, cause if you do, your an easy target for me

Of course it depends on the situation

Although there are no conclusive answers, I will try to outline some hints

Here are a few parameters you need to take into account

1) know your opponent: know his/her reputation & know his/her style of play

if it's a player with a lot of skills I recommend to be more cautious and make
more use of cover (although I have to admit I'm often too reckless in this)
:ooo:

take time to observe and learn the play style of your opponent:
some jump towards you (like UTW said) and some strafe like mad (Bone
Collector)

please observe that the reference to existing persons is for the sole purpose of illustrating a general piece of advice. This post is in no way intended to focus on particular persons.

2) know yourself: know your own temperament & know your own weakness
and strength

Are you a person that tends to rush in head on or are you a shadow
warrior?!

I'm aware that your question is about a 1 on 1 battle...but even then both
approaches are possible

Are you good at strafing?! Are you good at seeking cover and striking from
your hide-out/behind your cover?! Do you have a good aim (also when
moving/strafing/jumping)?!

3) know your own status

how much health and how much armor do you posses (if its possible try to
figure this out of your opponent too...by pointing your crosshair at him/her
for a few secs....his/her status will blink then). Be extra cautious about
people with serious damage (orange aura) and people in blue (Smurfs! :P )
I believe an unspoken/unwritten law in Ssam says "if you see someone in
in blue...RUN away"

4) know your weaponry and the skill you have at handling them (just a few
examples)

rocket launcher: inflicts a great deal of damage (also the heattrail of the
rockets) but rockets can be shot when you launch them and then they can
blow up in your face.

tommy gun: the tommy gun is nowhere near as lethal as it is in ssam1
I believe I can say the shotguns are the default weapons in ssam2

Still every weapon has its merit and if handled adequately every weapon can be lethal

Good luck on improving your skills

I think TUS (deva) is better at strafing!

and BTW
why does everyone keep calling me UTW..

that would say Ultimate the warrior???
if you gonna mke my name shorter
make it TUW!

It's great to see that you appreciate the pointers, and I hope they will help you a bit.

However it's impossible to give all the details....some things you just have to learn through practice and experience

:ooo: do I hear a trial and error echo?! :ooo:

The Untouchable Soldier/Devastator is a good player
and yes I have played him

what to do against a good knifer?!...hm this might be a good thread subject too

suggestion: if a good knifer closes in on you, without leaving you any space to shoot...then your only resort may be the knife as well

Ok I'll add a question myself

what factors play a role in a knife fight?

There is often a gap between theory and practice! :P  :ooo:

I know I'm no match for u TUW I acknowledge that and have never/nowhere refuted that

If I ever get skills  , I'll surely let you know :P

Bleh, its not the knifer that you see that's the problem... :P

Anyway, one of my brother's favorite tricks in SS1 that I still use sometimes was to run backwards with the revolver shooting at the knifer, then when they got close enough, switch to the knife and charge them. Usually you can catch them between swings.

And I think lag can be a huge factor in a knife fight, even more so than with shotguns.

LOL! :D
If I'm already close to them, I run towards them and jump, trying to land on their head (using the knife).
I don't win many games...LOL. :D

I can seriously relate to that. Lag can be a BIG factor in games.
