Im finally going to learn how to build a computer. So what I need is your help on certain items, such as what type of motherboard will I need for a certain processor or does it already come with it . .stuff like that.

hmm .. I want it to be no more than 650 USD. If you can, can you list all the things that I will need. I prefer newegg since they are cheaper. And Ill also need a case, a stylish one, that all this stuff can fit into ..

Thanks ... 8) :) :D :P

hmmm, Im sure Machine will get you a good list of stuff....I know how to make computers though, so I can help you when the time comes to put it together....$600 will get you a good computer, but it probably wont be able to play doom 3 and a lot of the next gen games that are coming out...

Are you going to use any of the parts from your old computer suck as Floppy drive, CD ROM, case, etc? Or do you need everything? I'm at my mothers house in NC but I will try to check back later this evening.

uhmm .. I need basically everything. The only thing Im stuck on is about the processor, motherboard and case and memory. I dont know which ones go with which. Even though a fan of intel .. Im aiming for an AMD this time, because of the price ..

Make sure you read the reviews at:

www.anandtech.com
www.hardocp.com
www.sharkyextreme.com
www.tomshardware.com

You'll want an AMD XP Processor, KT333 motherboard, PC2700 RAM, and an ATX case w/350+ power supply. There's the basics.

Not sure how much of that $650 you are wanting to spend on those parts you listed but here is my recommendation:

CPU - AMD XP 1800 $77 or AMD XP 2000 $100

Motherboard Shuttle AK35GT2 $74 or EPOX EP-8K3AE $85

Case - Any Chieftec ranges from $70 to $100+

RAM - Crucial PC2700 DDR 256Megs $86

With the motherboard there is really not that much performance differance between different brands that are usiung the same chipset, which in this case is the VIA kt333.

Yes all those prices are from Newegg. They are the only source I use. Plus don't forget about a heatsink and fan for your cpu. I ust the Thermalright AX-7 and an 80 mm fan.
