startup

[Sacrifice]

there are a lot of programs that i dont want to startup when i startup my computer...is there a way to stop a program from starting up when i turn my comp on?

If your running 98 or XP, go to start -> run and type msconfig. then go to startup and uncheck everything you dont want.

It looks like its been disabled or something... are you the administrator of your computer?

Just do a search for msconfig.exe
Mine (Win98) is located in C:/Windows/system folder

If you want to get your "Run" command back. Click on Start, right above where it says "All Programs". Right-Click and select properties. On the Start Menu tab select customize. Click on the advanced tab. Scroll down the start menu items till you see a radio button and select "Run Command".

I lost mine a while ago and had to hunt around to figure out how to get it back.

Right-click Start, go to Properties. Then Advanced. Then scroll down through the Start Menu items, and tick or Check the Run command option.

Then, follow the msconfig directions, and scrape that crap out there&#33;

For some reason MS in there infinite wisdom left it out of 2k. However I have a version of it from a developer kit from MS that works with 2k. PM me if you want it.


*EDIT* I also have a 2k version of tweakui and ipconfig if you want. These were also left out of 2k. :rolleyes:

Actually it is simple and much better than editing the registry. You just uncheck the things you don&#39;t want to run in MSconfig and check it back if it breaks something :D
Tweak is full of options hidden by MS.
IPconfig is just nice to have if you don&#39;t like dos command line.

Sirc, you can also copy the msconfig.exe from another box and simply place it on your 2K desktop. When you run it, it will give you several errors, just click through them and ignore them. Eventually, you will get to the interface. I can email you the .exe if you need it.
