Images always save as .BMP

when ever i try to save an image in internet exploder it always wants to save a a .bmp (even animated .gifs)
its a real pain because they always save as "untitled1.bmp" and i always have to rename and its just annoying. can anyone help?

does this delete your favorites,or just the info about sites you visit?

It leaves your favorites alone... They are stored in this folder
C:\Documents and Settings\"your user name"\Favorites
